Anyone think theirs any real disadvantage to this? my traffic comes from ezines so seo doesn't really matter just saves some money as i promote alot of products
I guess .com is a more trusted domain, but I don't think there should really be that much difference in traffic though.
I've often thought about this too. As far as google/search engines are concerned there seems to be no difference at all. As long as you've got good content and seo, you can rank just as well as a .com. That said, i think that there is a difference, and it is the psychological aspect of a person seeing a .info versus a .com. For whatever reason, It may not carry the visual appeal that a .com does. Im not sure if there is a way to quantify how people react to this or even if it has been researched, but on some level I believe that there are people that have a less positive reaction to a .info domain. The number of people that may feel this way could also be very small, but I think that you need every edge you can get and would try for a .com/.net/.org. Ask yourself, is it worth losing a potential sale for 5 dollars? That's my gut feeling though, and there may be someone that can give you concrete proof of the opposing argument.
Domains tend to have more weight with google if they are an older domain. 2 identical sites with good SEO & PR will rank differently if one is older than the other. I own several .info domains that I use for landing pages. Some are #1 in google for my keywords. So, .info has never been bad for me.
I've never noticed much difference between .infos and .coms. It really doesn't matter if you're not relying on SEO for your traffic, so I'd say go ahead and save the registrar fees.
I prefer .com. It looks much more professional. I use COM for all my landing pages. I've never bought an INFO for a serious project.
I use .coms but really it's just a matter of your preference... The only disadvantage is that webmasters usually associate spam with .info domains, so if you're targeting any of the niches targeted for webmasters you might want to choose .com domain... GL
For search engines it doesn't matter, whether it's .com or .net or whatever, but visitors prefer .com domains. They are more popular and kinda people are used to them, even without understanding what does that mean....
I have been considering using some .info domains because I want to try promoting a couple of different products that I am not doing right now. I am using hostmonster, and every domain you buy from them is 10 bucks no matter what. Where can I get one of these .99 .info's and transfer it to me hostmonster account?
you can try either namecheap or godaddy, transfering it should not be a problem I think all you need to do is to change the name servers but I am not too sure
Not to sound coy - but guys - you're into marketing not just technical seo variables re .com vs .whatever... At the end of the day it's a $10 investment into a MARKETING CAMPAIGN << Where presentation is everything, perceived value is everything, the .com is close to everything 'top level' on the internet unless you go country specific. If you truly can't afford a .com 'yet', do the .info thing, no it won't matter to SE's, but SE's aren't the ones buying your offers, and responding to a .info may indeed lessen the perceived value of your pitch. Do yourself a favor, once you DO make enough - promise yourself you'll never go back to a .info, it just makes more sense to call yourself an internet marketer having a portfolio of .com's with quality landers than chopped up .info's where you're throwing jam at the wall running product to product as you test them. Chances are if you decided you want to test them, you have indeed dome enough research to have a good hunch about it, thus $10 for a .com should not only be favorable imo, but almost a necessity if you want to be taken seriously by your prospects. My .02. N.
aright thanks NC, your point is well taken, I guess I will shell out for the .coms after I make a couple more sales on my current ones.
