hi guys, I'm intending to buy a new laptop (Hp Pavilion dv2855) but I wanted first to get your suggestions
    here's Hp Pavilion dv2855 features:

    3MB L2 Cache Memory

    RAM: 2G DDR2

    Hard Disk: 250 GB SATA

Optical Drive: DVD+/-RW Double Layer LightScribe

    Monitor: 14.1 TFT WXGA Brightview

Display Card: Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS
Display Card Memory: 128MB Dedicated - Up to 859MB

comm.ports: Modem, Lan, WIFI, USB 2.0, FireWire, Mc Reader, D-Sub, Bluetooth, S-Video, HDMI, Expansion port 3

what are typed in red are what I don't understand so could you please clarify these features?

Display Card Memory: 128MB Dedicated - Up to 859MB
Means that you have 128 MB Graphics dedicated to your computer as in memory on a graphics card to do that. As for the up to 859 MB it means it will draw from your main system memory (RAM) to make up for the rest of the graphics. Shared graphics basically is horrible to some extent so that 128MB should help out a lot.

FireWire I never use, its basically a connection port for things like cameras, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire

    D-Sub: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-subminiature

S-Video: to hook up to a monitor or TV (if compatible)

HDMI = High Definition Multimedia Interface: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

Expansion Port 3 (AKA Express Slot 54): Port of the future, I think there's a few things you can put into that like a TV card I think is one of them.

Overall looks nice, although it depends on the price.

That looks like a good laptop, but obviously it depends on how much you are spending on it and what you will be using it for. IMO that laptop would be good enough for doing just about anything, as long as you are not going to be doing major video gaming or editing movies.

$1,000 for this configuration seems like a lot. Can't you buy it online and get it delivered to where you live?
