Unrealistic prices for domain names?

    Hello!

I visit SEDO from time to time. What I noticed is that there are a lot of domain names that aren't very good but have been sold for a unbelieveable high price.

What's your opinion? Have you noticed the same thing?

    Yours,
    Markus

yes, and I guess if thats what people are willing to pay for then that's what they will pay. I mean if there is a domain someone wants badly enough and there just so happens to be another thinking the same thing than prices can go high. Domains are one of a kind things and there is not a lot available.

Hey, I had a had domain name for 10 years. It was four letters a .com and kind of catchy. I never really did develop it into what I wanted, but it was my faviorite. It was one of those that had SO much potential, I could never settle on anything.

Every once in a while, maybe once or twice a year someone would contact me to buy it. I really didn't want to sell it, so I'd ask for $10K or $15K , I'd never hear from the them again ... then I got a letter from a guy who really seemed interested ... and I really didn't want to sell it.... So I asked for $80K, figuring he'd go away too ... He counter offered $30K.... Twice my highest previous asking price.

    I took the money.

Too much money? I didn't think so ;)

Was it developed into a site that matched the domain's potential?

I've seen previews and it looks like it will be. There's a unique web app on the back end and he's doing a really good job with it. I'm looking forward to the initial launch.

Yeah i see it the same way, but you have to have luck to get the right person to view your site/offer.

It's just like the housing market - 1 part emotional decision and 1 part based on need. If a buyer wants a house, and there's no other one like it in the world, they'll pay some high percentage of whatever your asking price is, even though it might not be rational to other buyers or based on the comps.

Sure, it was dazz.com if you go there right now, it looks like there's a count down screen. A guy in Germany bought it. (You'll notice that I still haven't let go of the idea 100% ... see my screen name)

I think its just a matter of how much the person wants the domain and what plans s/he has got for that domain, no price is too high in my opinion, or as the saying goes "One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure"
