Wanted: Offshore dedicated server

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by caturday, Aug 8, 2008.

I am looking for an unmanaged dedicated server with these features:

    PHP
    SQL
    RedHat
    2gb ram (1gb might work)
    10gb HDD space
root access - need to install certain software
Privacy - server logs stay private or destroyed.
Not sure on transfer yet, could be anything from 5gb to 300gb. Please give me different quotes.

Above all, I need a company based in a country with extremely strict internet privacy laws. The web host must not turn over server logs under any circumstances (other than Terrorism, child porn, drugs) to any government organization, including the US. Please be prepared to show me your companies web site and privacy policy. No fly-by-night resellers, please.

I sincerely thank anyone who responds...

Only 10GB HDD? Why not try a VPS server?

because i'll be using an ass-load of resources. I certainly don't mind VPS if the host doesn't mind me using a ton of ram and processing resources.

Leaseweb is in Holland... which has a slight history of forcing siteops to turn over server logs. Any other ideas folks?

That site is owned by kids who do not even know what the word privacy means.

Seriously. I have spoken with some of them before.

1: Check those countries they host in:

United States United Kingdom Germany Malaysia
Czech Republic The Netherlands Hong Kong Canada

3 countries (US, UK and Germany) are OFFICIALLY the worst countries to host in if you are concerned with privacy. They (the law) actually have the right there to take your servers out and play football with it.
Not even one of them is offshore or is even concerned with privacy of people. Malaysia is a former British colony for Christ sake, and Germany is the land of the lawyers, everything is open there.

1b: That company is seriously dangerous to free people. They might infact be a sinister government agency because it is so obvious they do not protect anyone. On the contrary.

2: Check out their forum for example, it contains several areas wich are totally not related to hosting. It has areas like 911 / coverup, or government opression. These topics are most likely made to pinpoint wich people have wich IP adress and who of them has opinions wich do not conform with what the government wants. They actually ask them to post publicly, their beliefs and other things. It could be that site is a honeypot to catch people the government sees as potentially dangerous on the internet.

3: It is also strange that that company does not want to disclose who they are, because this makes it 100% impossible for them to protect their clients in court.
4: They work with paypal and creditcards, a privacy company for crying out loud :(:( do they not know that these are big brothers finest toys? With creditcards the government can actually pinpoint who made what transfer on what time and where in the world!
5: They use zencart for shopping system, zencart is known to have quite a few bugs, you dont want your information to leak there either.

Please stay away from them, do not end up in jail for just a few bucks, seriously !!!!!!

    Much regards,

Profit is just an idiot with too much time on his hands and spouts off at the mouth and when you go to defend your yourself, he cries like a whiny baby and tell a mod. That just goes to show how un-mature this guy really is. By reviewing the forum sections all over DP, Profit has been put in his place hundreds of times over. We all know he's a moron that talks about suing every one for every thing but in reality does nothing. He sits in the Netherlands proclaiming his services to be top notch, but there are threads all over the DP forum saying he is a scam artist. Thats all I'll say on this topic. I am not responding any further to this topic because Profit is an idiot and a waste of time.

Try eurotivity.com which is in Amsterdam. I have used their virtual packages in the past for some of my sites which I needed privacy on... They also sell dedicated boxes, but I never had a need for anything that powerful. I think the company is about 8-10 people, and I had one of the senior technician's cell phone email address for 24 hour service if anything ever came up. Service was good, and I can't remember the prices I was paying but it wasn't anything outrageous.

do you allow mass mailing? need to send newsletter once a week to about 70-80K of email addresses. note, only once a week, but it needs to be send in a single day. so is there any limits to the number of emails that can be send per day?

While Profit|Jacob might be a troll, he has a good point: how can a site advocating privacy sell hosting solutions in the worlds least private countries?

Anyway, the single most important thing to me is that a host won't turn over server logs if pressured. Any offshore host that has so much as a single server located in the US, UK, DE, etc cannot say that "they won't do that" because the country can simply threaten their operations unless they comply.

Can someone please list off some good private offshore hosts, please?

We do not keep logs, and simply put our servers in the UK allow users to watch BBC and on demand TV, we also had users request the US for a VPN so we added those, seems some of our online networks only work with US IPs, thats why we have those servers, it offers a selection.
