I second that. I was using IE for a long time because it 'came with the computer'. I had a professor open my eyes to the superiority of FF, and it's been smooth sailing ever since.
IE comes installed on Windows because Microsoft doesn't want to be killed by Firefox (Which already happened) Also because Microsoft made IE. Firefox loads the program even faster than IE. For me firefox takes about 3 seconds, and IE takes like 10 seconds. I have about 4 add-ons on Firefox, and none of IE. So Firefox wins big time.
Is FF a fast loading browser? I use Firefox and takes AGES before the program starts and once it's running I feel it goes at a very average speed despite I'm using a high-speed broadband connection I use IE, however, whenever I want to enjoy all the cosmetic stuff and special effects that Mozilla browsers can handle at graphics and art websites. Most graphical and visual artists develop IE-based websites and you realize it if your surf with IE.
I think both load just as slow but i use firefox as its better IMO IE has problems with pages rendering incorrectly not firefox.
IE7 all the way! only from those Firefox nut hugging douche bags who design things just as a media stunt to say zomg IE sucks, I can do the same with FF and have it render just fine in IE.
They can't because IE is native. So it will be always faster (and in my oppinion, better). Why? Well, if you have a software which lets users develop addons, who develops better addons? You, the owner, or they?
I can't believe that these topics still come up but here goes: Firefox loads about 2x faster due to much less bloat code. Firefox has far less security issues than IE and it allows pluggins that are great for SEO purposes.
FF can be a quite RAM eater. When I'm developing websites offline using locally installed Apache server, it usually eats 800-1000 MB of memory. Scary.
I agree that FF is a RAM-hog. But, FF 3 is *much* faster than 2.* and the functionality that it gives makes it worth it for me. The developers tools, firebug, color picker, etc. makes it all worth while.
For me, Firefox 2 is much better than IE 5 6 OR 7, not only FF loads faster, but it also has a lot of useful plugins as well.
