I wanted a domain name but this person is just sitting on it with one of those generic ad pages for 5 years. There's no contact....I looked at whois info and it's private...it's with godaddy that's all i know....so is there any way to contact this person?

is it the site active or parked?
otherwise you can contact the domain registrar directly.

why? what's the registrar going to do?
    it's a PRIVATE registration.
and, if the owner wants to sit on it - he/she's allowed. :)

Depend on the person who owns that domain, he may not want to sell them even if you find a way to contact him.

if its private he may not want to sell it, you could try contacting the host where the nameserves point to.

There may be a chance that he wants to sell, albeit small.
