I would like to start a forum.What you think about it ? What niche I should take ? I am also thinking about adult niche but will I get good return ?
I would suggest taking niche that is interesting for You. Of course if you are interested in niche that is very competitive, then maybe it is worth to looking for alternatives, but make sure you find some good posters in that niche, because you will need to build and attract people so they find out good content on your site from start. Overall I do not think that forum is the best way to earn money online, but from forum you can build bigger sites when having frequent and loyal visitors.
Adult niche has lot of potential but it may face legal problems based on the Law of specific jurisdiction, also in many countries adult content are restricted. However if you've planned to have legal content, you may consider this niche.
May be you find my reply off-topic, but just by looking at your username I think your name is Priya Kochin which is an Indian Girl's name, right? So if you are a girl, you are going to build an adult forum? ... isn't strange? I would suggest you to start a general discussion forum just like mine (www.smsbucket.com/forums) This way you can have LOTS of members who are interested in general discussions. But for adult forums as stated by above person you will have to face legal issues. Good luck
Starting a forum is an easy part, all you need is just some time, a forum script and a website and you are done. However, keeping the forum active and attracting people would be the hard part. There would be a lot of times which you can get disillusioned and discouraged from the numbers so it is important to find a niche which you fully believed in so that you can keep it alive with all your passions. Never start a forum just for the money, there may be none and usually when money is the main purpose of the forum, it would most likely fail. I am here a lot but I have never clicked an adsense link here before. I would technically be economically not useful here if making money was the goal of this place. I am sure that many of us are conditioned not to click ads especially adsense.

I will tell you short but good. It`s easy to start forum, install, make categories and subcategories...but the most hardest thing is to find members...a lot members and that they are active. Popular forum can be any niche forum, it depens on your work. You should use SMF or PhpBB script for forum because they have more modules then any other forum. Thanks!
I am not very sure but just recently heard of the competition of forums it is very tough to overcome it now as very niche has a forum. If you are planning something big or huge then plan making a forum. But if u think u are investing 100$ and u need to make a forum out of it then i think it is a very bad idea.
I would suggest steering away from 'general forums' as they are often not targeted enough to have people return. My advice would be to really think of some topic you could spend years discussing... and that's your answer.
You need to pick a topic which you will NEVER get bored of or demotivated from, something thats not just a phase something you deeply love, enjoy and go crazy talking about. You then need to do some research in to what competition you have, how big the market is, who is in the market, the big dogs and the little dogs, take not of how they gain members and become active, take not of these and use them later to promote your site. Now take everything you have learnt so far and develop the forum if you see that there is scope for another forum or even better yours is the first. Nick design ideas and customise your own ideas in to others, make yours unique however include everything that your market wants through seeing whats popular in other forums. Market the forum constantly for 1-2 months if you have no luck up til then in breaking 100 members i would contemplate changing your marketing idea or considering the niche to be too small. Work at it and persist. Patience is the key, keep motivated and stay positive. Good luck.
Define adult? There's lot's of "adult" sites that are not pornographic and there is certainly a difference between "R" rated and "X" rated or sexually explicit sites. Adult could be mature topics of discussion or even free use of the American "gutter" vernacular. I ask simply because i have an "adult" site and I'm not aware of any legal complications other than a waiver and electronic signature. Of course, my "adult" site [although it has nudity] has no explicit sexual content.
First of all , let you know. Adult forum or website is not allowed in India as per Indian cyber rules. Many websites related to Indian pornography which is above 18 or below 18 content are controlled and managed by NRI'S(Non Residential Indian) or other country peoples. Its not a good idea to start a adult forum as its strictly prohibitted in India. Warez is also not allowed however , you do it with offshore host , once you get traced you may have to face legal problems. Forum is only about patience, yes everyone is in internet to earn money , but instant build instant earn doesn't comply with forums. Here are some tips:- So , Start a forum with a subsiquently unique idea , with unique management of it. Make some promos to attract members. Just don't build up a forum only for adsense purpose. Keep patince , dont just open a forum and close it as you are not getting members , instead try to think to get members. Patience is the most important key for forums. Using paid forum script also make good impression of potential of forum. A domain name must reflect the content of the forum. Don't spam other websites advertisin g your forum. Do advertise in a proper and professional way. Use google adwords programme for good marketing. If you want to invest you can put up your banners at good impressions websites. Hope it helps.
