I just finished my second set of 5 articles. These are the ones aimed at the phrase "lose weight fast." They all link to my landing page based around that term and they all include the phrase "lose weight fast" in the title.

Here's the stats on the articles I just submitted with average search volume from the Google KW Tool and the amount of competition in quotes and the amount of competition with quotes in title in Google (I'm curious to see if this is a more accurate way of checking competitiveness, my guess is that it may be.) ... I'm also going to put the rank of any EZ articles that currently rank in the top 10 (without quotes as normal people don't search with quotes.)

    Article #1: 140 / 2630 / 49 / #5 (pretty generic title match.)
    Article #2: 1000 / 20,500 / 539 / #7 (not an exact title match.)
    Article #3: 1600 / 21,400 / 89 / 0
    Article #4: 480 / 18,200 / 190 / 0
    Article #5: 590 / 14,700 / 145 / 0

These numbers are related to the keyword phrase I am targeting with each article. That keyword phrase is of course included in the title of the article.

    They are (in order) :

Google KW Tool "Phrase" Average Searches Per Month /

Google Results For "Quotes" Search /

Google Results For intitle:"Quotes" Search /

EZine Articles In Current Top 10 Of Google Search Without Quotes.

Awesome research. Good luck with your efforts & I too will be following this closely.

Don't you think publishing your domain name might skew your stats, coz, DP'ers following this thread might be curious to see the articles and might follow through onto the landing page?

It may skew the hops a bit I suppose - but I don't expect anyone here to buy it! In the end those are the stats that really matter - sales.

I just wanted to give people a better idea of exactly what I am doing and I thought showing the domain would be a good thing to do. I think the only thing I'm not going to be sharing is the exact titles of my articles - as that's a bit of research and it'd be too easy for someone to swoop in here and take that info and write articles with the same titles but promoting something else.

My basic KW target for today is "online diet"

I'll be creating a landing page/blog post for that and then writing 5 articles related to that term.

    --

On a side note: I've reverted my products sales-letter back to an earlier version (one that I know was making sales) as the new one I had created (which I thought looked much better) hasn't been converting at all. Already the old one has made a sale for me and I just changed it. I don't really get it as the old one looks much uglier to me - but I also changed some copy - so maybe that's it.

    Good luck.

I've done a similar experiment quite a while ago (4+ months) and I've learned TONS from it.

No real news to report yet as no articles are live yet - but I do think my first set of articles may get approved tomorrow. I'm writing down notes on each article so I can track things better. The first 5 articles I did were brand name specific so I didn't research those titles too much as I don't really have much brand name traffic yet.

Starting with the second set (that I listed up there) I'm numbering each article 1 through 75 with the "research numbers" so I can see how well articles rank based on their competition. The 5 I already listed were articles 1 through 5 and today's will be 6 through 10 and so on. This is so I can keep track of things better.

Today's articles are based on the "online diet" theme.

    #6 - 2900 / 82700 / 546 / 0
    #7 - 1000 / 11500 / 160 / 0
    #8 - 390 / 94300 / 62 / 0
    #9 - 210 /4440 /49 / 0
    #10 - 140 / 3340 / 36 / 0

CW says I have no shot on #6 - way too much competition. That's probably true but I decided to try it anyway for the sake of the experiment! #7 looks like it could be quite a nice opportunity. Based on the phrase results #8 looks way out of reach but the low "intitle" result gives me hope. That's actually a great one to test my theory on the importance of "intitle:" #9 and #10 should be pretty easy to achieve high rankings with but... I'm seeing some sort of strange Google results on these searches (like they seem biased towards the "big" sites) so I'm not convinced.

For anyone curious as to what the numbers mean (I said it up there but I might as well paste it down here so you don't have to look around)

Zibblu, are you writing these articles yourself? How many words is each article when you've finished it? Are they longer than planned? How long does each article take to write?

Ah yes, good questions. I haven't talked much about this aspect yet.

Yes I do write all of these articles myself. I generally write them entirely from scratch. In the past I've hired people to write articles but I find that to get decent articles you have to pay more than I want to, and even then - it's hard to trust any article writers. Are they just giving you copied stuff?

I usually aim for short articles in the 250-300 range. Sometimes they do end up being a little longer.

I prefer short articles for these reasons:

    1. They're less work. Easier to write.
    2. It's easier to keep someone interested for a short amount of time before I show them my links. I've experienced a higher CTR on shorter articles compared to longer ones.
    3. My links stand out more when the article is short. They are higher.

    ---

That being said, I may experiment some with some different/longer article strategies during this experiment to see what my results are.

    ---

It takes me 10 to 30 minutes to write one usually.

Great answers. I've always preferred shorter articles too. 300 words is a nice length to sum up what you have to say, without it looking like you've padded things out for a reason.

Its quite remarkable that you have the time and effort to churn out that number of articles if they take you 30 mins to write.

How do you write them? Do you write them entirely off your head or base them on some pre-existent text such as articles already on ezine, wikipedia etc?
