I'd like to define TOP 10 web directories in the Internet. What are the best web directories among general web directories to Your mind?

This question is asked quite a bit. Try doing a search and you will get a lot of data on the subject.

Your information will help to edit the TOP 10 directories on my web site. Opinion of a directory owner is very important for me.

I'd like to define what 'best' means to you.

Value for the submitter, and if so in what way e.g. traffic?

Value for the browser, they can find niche sites more easily than searching?

Value for the WWW, a site that offers a useful resource which is not available elsewhere?

    Or something else?

Choosing a top ten is highly subjective.

    I agree, very subjective.
I personally look at a top directory as one with a well developed quality database and a useful internet resource. Not a very popular means of rating a directory today. The value of a database was lost when more concern was given to the value of page rank and links.

I think if Business.com would have been a free directory, it would take even higher place in the TOP

dirjournal - good directory. Though there's not so many links to useful recourses, it was made professionally and looks perfectly. What criterias did You use while selecting web-directories?

dirjournal is a good looking directory but it's still a puppy and has a lot of growing to do yet.

First criteria is age of domain.

Second criteria is contents - which does not only mean listing of sites but also high quality informative articles on blogs these directories are offering.

3rd is traffic ( I know few believe in Alexa-but it still is indicative)

Yup - has a long way to go - but as I know they are working very hard to editorially add useful listings along with regular articles of highest quality. In fact those articles made me select this directory.:)

yeah, agree with you. But you might consider the quality directories as well not just the top list.

I like all your submissions, but I did not understand why you included - Web World (webworldindex.com). It seems like a nice enough directory, but it does not appear to be really all that remarkable - just curious as I am always looking for new good directories to submit to - thanks.

What about popularity of directories? Isn't it one of the main criterias? To my mind, DMOZ is being one of the best dierctories exactly due to its fame. Despite being younger than vlib.org (1991) and lii.org (1994), DMOZ is the best.
