Website died over night

Well up until 2 days ago, my forum have usually over 30 people online at once, and over 300 members visiting a day, with around 2200 uniques per day. And now, it seems just over night the website has died, there is only 5 people online and the number of members visiting per day is dramatically decreasing. Anybody any ideas what could be causing this?

website is http://tinyurl.com/586ej6, does it work fine for everyone? No problems?

Looks fine to me, it does take a few seconds to load but that's because it has a lot of images on it I guess ;).

Funny you mention this, because one of my sites did the same thing recently. Just overnight, traffic was chopped in half, and it's been that way for the past 5 days. Hopefully it's just because everyone is on summer holidays... :)

The question is, is that real traffic or search engine crawlers?

The husband of a friend of mine was running a popular forum that suddenly doubled its traffic for weeks and then it was dropped down.

Reviewing his logs he found 40+ robots from a Chinese search engine actively crawling at once during those weeks when the traffic increased. Funny thing is that his forum, hosting, content and location had nothing to do with Asia so no idea why the Chinese robots where so enthusiastic with that forum.

Including spiders its usually around 50. I know this because I have my traffic split into 3 categories: members, guests and spiders. There are usually around 20 spiders, mostly yahoo slurp! spiders..

Anyway I found the problem, much to my relief my website did not die. There were 2 copies of my forum running, one accessed by adding the "www." part and another leaving it out. I was browsing the empty one. I soon discovered all the traffic was on the one I was not. Its a very confusing matter but my representative from liquidxhost is hopefully sorting the matter.

All I can say is what I relief, I thought my website was going into the biggest recession ever.

    Lol XD

I needed my host to restore the database to fix the problem, so they had to temporarily put my forums offline while they did it. Everything is fixed now though
