It Wasn't Me, I SWARE!

I am the owner of InForum Advertising, a few month old internet marketing service that concentrates on talking up websites via online communities.

We are still fairly small with only a handful of regulars.

So I am always baffled when I receive stuff like:
"I noticed quite a bit of activity from your company and your clients on our Forums recently. I would ask that you please do not create multiple accounts, and do not advertise your clients on our Forum.
All of the links in our forums are "nofollow" as well.

We're in the process of deleting all threads & closing all accounts associated with the advertising activity."

Note that I have never used this forum for InForum Advertising. And even if I did, they would never know because the advertising is very organic. (I wonder whose accounts they are going to delete!)

This is the third time I received something like this. Previously, I found a forum blaming me for all the spam it has been getting lately. Again, I have never used the forum and only found out about it when they appeared on my StatCounter.

On one hand, I am happy that the brand has grown enough to be so recognized. But on the other hand, the service does not spam and I don't want people to think we do.

Do you think this is good publicity, or bad publicity?

Some would say any publicity is good publicity.

For future reference, the last word in the thread title is generally spelled "swear". I'm not aware of alternate spellings, but there may be a few.

yeah, but at least those forum admins / mods won't be appreciating his work in the days to come. And for me if you lose one customer then that is just the start of your downfall ..

Good publicity or Bad publicity, your forum gets attentions. But you better find a way to promote your forum nicely to gain more members.

Of course, you're right. Not sure if I can just the title now but I'll be more careful next time.

But you see, they would never know it's part of InForum Advertising.
It's like me starting this thread. It got over 20 visitors to my website already and actually might have made me a sale. That's what I do for other websites/services. What I do isn't spam and will never be accused as spam. The only thing happening is that people think actual spammers are part of our service...

    From my Statcounter :)

I don't promote forums. I promote different websites via forums. If I ever get a forum owner contacting me and saying please stop promoting via these accounts ..... (which can't happen!), then I will know that I am doing something wrong. But that's not the case.

I don't promote my forums or any forums for that matter. I promote websites/services through other forums.

To be honest... this sounds bit of a spam. :)

It's a nice idea... but sounds spammy to me.

Well, perhaps somebody you've hired is doing this?

How come they can contact you btw... if you are linking to other places?

Very organic? Maybe I'm missing the point... but you got paid to advertise in other forums. How come that is very organic? :)

No one I hired is posting in their forum. I would know, everything goes through me. They contacted me because they must have heard somewhere of the service and assumed that I was using their forum. Not saying I never would, but it's ironic that I never have.

Advertising is banners, keywords etc. In contrast, organic advertising is talking to people about a service. Like this post got me dozens of visitors. No one in this forum would treat this thread as spam (obviously, it's not). That's what we do with InForum Advertising. (except it's usually not in webmaster forums since those who own webmaster sites, can do this themselves)
