ICANN is really getting into market segmentation and as a monopoly seemed to be out to squeeze every bit out of every company, big and small. Sad thing that a domain name which used to be just for the sake of convenience instead of remembering numeric triplets have now evolved into huge cash cow for milking......
this would be a good time to be a domain regstrar is what I'm thinking lol. 33 billion in 3 years is staggering. Whoever can cash in on this new development is in a position to make alot of money.
some people will make a lot of money, but many people will lose a lot of money, this is how the world works the domain market is no different. Time will show. I have a feeling that this TLD idea will be a major flop, there might be one good tld that may make it but how many others will just become flops? Think about it, the domain market is based on brandability of a domain which includes a tld. The reason for example .com is so popular is because Billions have been spend by different companies advertising their .com domain to customers. This is also the reason why the .com value is so high and more stable. However there will be one or two domain extensions that will do well, other then that I cant see any doning great, people will just become more confused.
