    No.

If I spend 15 hours weekly writing and make $100,000+ annually from my clients, do you think building crap for AdSense is a better option?

    ;)

The problem is that competition gets tougher with each passing day and with more supply than demand, of course the price will go down. When I browse across forums, what I noted is that there are way just too many writers that offer rates that go ridiculously low. So if a buyer sees these kind of rate, they will go for it provided that the quality can be compromised. Basically there's nothing much we can do about it.

Unless there is something like association of writers, then it would be different.

But remember lycos - clients who would be willing to compromise quality are not the same market as clients looking for quality work. That client market still struggles to find qualified writers often enough. And of course there are sub-markets within that group where qualified writers are even harder to come by. It all depends on your specialty and your ability to market yourself (which starts with understanding who your target market really is).

    Dear Lycos,

I have been in the content writing business for long now. The real problem is the first time around you gotto impress your clients. Once that works out, the clients would not hesitate paying you more. And really with $5 as the benchmark for a 500 worder, I don't really think you should be concerned about people who eat into your pie of business.

I have about 32 unread PMs right now. Can't sit around replying. :)

I'll get to it today most likely. I try to limit my time here.

Got to make m-o-n-e-y ya know. :D

I guess I'll go public with my prediction.

    <snip>

LOL. I just snipped my post that freelance writers and those hiring writers might have found interesting. Think I'll finally revive my 5-year-old site that just sits there with this post.

    Or not. :D

I do agree with you. I joined DP with networking in mind and accepted a few low paid jobs as a way to introduce myself as a writer, but shortly after I found high-paid gigs and the underground DP market that Jenn referred to not long ago.

He's cleverly building demand for the product before it even launches. I can't figure out if he's doing it on purpose or not, but it's definitely working on me. I'm like write the book, set up the website, or whatever, I'm ready to give you money! Hmm...a sales tactic I could possibly use.

Nah. Jason's lazy. He'll never actually do it. ;) I'm still wondering what happened to Content Tycoon. :p

Or maybe we all just need to put on more pressure - put up or shut up. :D

    Oooo, I love spankings. :D

Actually, there is CT revisions on paper and a re-launch plan. I'm looking at the landscape and seeing if it's worth my time.

Lazy? Sure, why not. Actually, it's just having too many projects planned, too many ways to make money and not enough time. I'm sure you know how that is Jenn. :D

So Jenn, what's your Web site of the month. ;)

    Glad to hear it.

Yeah, I do. I actually just walked away from two sites (including one of my bigger blogs) to pursue new (more relevant) ones.

I know a guy that writes at a value of £900 a day. Shouldn't you be aiming for that?

Yesterday i got an email from a client who wanted me to write a completely original, well researched article comprising of over 500 words.

And guess the price he wanted to pay for that - $2
Now that is seriously an insult!

    It happens.

I wouldn't take it seriously. Clients and potential clients are just offering what's within their budget usually and it's nothing personal. For all you know, that client thinks the price is fair and believes he is helping you out by offering you the job.

Rather than getting mad, ignore it and look for better clients.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Its really competitive out there, and it seems like only the low-wage workers really get the real amount of jobs. Of course, they work hours and hours a day completing things in the crappiest ways.
