The site in my sig was indexed less than a week after start-up but now is gone. There is another site that is still indexed. Any ideas? (I did search dp to try and find an answer first, but the answer seems to be page-specific)

First of all you have a very competitive market. You need to evaluate your competitors to find out why their websites are ranking higher than yours and get to work. If you are not proficient in SEO I suggest you find someone that is to help you.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I wasn't asking for advice on serp's, I was asking for comments on the phenomenon of de-indexing, for reasons other than black hat activities.

I don't know what that search link has to do with anything, but you need to build more back links to get indexed in google.

Run a search in google. Use site:"your site url" in google search. This will show you all the pages indexed from your site.

It will take some time to index your pages, in Google.
You just need to build quality back links, n m sure it will index very soon.

I just think it's a great tool to find stuff on DP and I like to let people know about it, but I admit, it was kind of random.

Go to the link building section of dp and start reading.

Once in a while a new site will show up in the index and then drop out again. Remember, google has thousands of servers that are constantly being updated with new versions of the index. Your new site may only be on 20% of them after a week. So what appears to be your site showing up and disappearing could simply be you getting a different server when you search. Give it a couple more weeks before you worry about it. In the mean time start building links to your site.

If it doesn't show up in a couple of weeks then you need to start looking at what penalties you might be suffering due to the content of your site.

I agree some times you will see more or less pages indexed this could be because your site is new and in still being crawled, cached, and indexed
