Adding duplicate content a bad thing for the whole site?

I am currently re-vamping several cheats websites and have come across the dilema of whether i should include duplicate content.

Basically I will be updating the latest consoles PS3, Wii and 360 with UNIQUE content. However previous consoles such as PS2, Playstation, Gameboy etc have soo many games that this would be impossible and unprofitable to publish unique content. I can however post duplicate content used previously which appears on several other sites. I was wondering though is it best to leave this content out all together? Does any duplicated content result in a site being poorly ranked by Google when it does have unique content as well.

    Thanks

It is always best to use original content but as long as you have some quality unique articles, I see no problem using duplicates as long as you do violate copyrights of someone else.

Duplicate content is another Google myth started when people started making made for Adsense sites with a bunch of duplicated articles. You could see 400 dating advice sites all identical at one point. These were the type of sites that caused Google to act and start the myth of no duplicate content.

I very much believe that duplicate content is frowned upon on an individual webpage by Search Engines, especially Google, as I have suffered in the past. Whether it affected the site as a whole I was never sure.

duplicate content = an article which is found on one or more websites with exact wording the same.

unique content = an article that is only found on your website and is original.

I do not think duplicate content will get you penalised, I believe those duplicate pages will just not rate well. If duplicate content did get you penalised you would find all the news sites who run the same associated press articles would have issues.

As a simple tips to avoid duplicate content: NEVER post, submit your UNIQUE articles to article directory, etc. You can re write is so that it will be another unique content with same idea.

Go read any reputable SEO book or guide, they'll all tell you duplicate content won't bennefit you or your site at all.

Wether you get banned or not, who knows.
