Ask yourself before you create a blog!

many people wanted to start a blog because they just want to earn and then fail... For some reason, many are getting demotivated... before you start a blog, consider the following...

    1. Are you an expert with the topic?
    2. Do you have a target audience?
    3. How much time can you spend in promotion?

The reason why I did not mention niche because I believe every niche has a good earning potential if you are an expert with your own niche. Why would you open a mesothelioma site when you know nothing about it? because of high paying keywords? Then you must be an idiot to think about that... the only thing you can do is to copy others' content...

I am running 2 blogs, one seo and the other one is technical (related to my work)... none of them is giving me any problem because I am expert on both, especially on my technical blog...

If you can;t think of any niche to promote then you are not human... Do you have a hobby? If you answer no then online marketing is not for you... online moneymaking is for people who are dedicated and serious...

I hate to see a topic in forums that says
"What niche is the best to promote?.." Anyone who ask this question has no originality and will just copy others' content and post it in his blog... because he knows nothing than to earn... :D

    Silveraden,

I completely agree with you. Starting a blog just because you heard that John Chow makes $30K/month is not a reason to start your own site.
If you know a lot about a particular topic however, you will be successfull even if the keywords are not the highly paid ones.

i run http://choseit.com which gives basic close to advanced on some areas of seo advice along with traffic boosting tips AND gives free subdomain blogs to people with no ads and no charges at all.... are there any google ads on my site? no, any paid posts? heck its a none profit site. its been up for 32 days and has over 60 bloggers already, will it always be free? yes.

I think that althoug some people get into blogging for the wrong reaosns they quickly walk out, blogging is more of a lifestyle than a hobby in my mind. Gaining money from blogging should not be a case of hat keyword for adsense and more what can i write that intrests the reader but still points to W.E your selling. Being a professional in a specific area is not needed to blog, i got paid $600 to optimise a company website took me 3 days but i dont call myself a professional i pick up new off site tactics daily and there what i use to base my posts on.

I totally disagree you. If you want to enter a niche which you know nothing about, just do it, but make sure you do it well! The key is to read as much as you can about the niche in advance, talk to people in the niche, get yourself educated in the niche. Once you feel like you know enough about the niche to talk about it with your own words you're ready to make money in it! I knew basically nothing about the niches I work with, but I always kept telling myself that education didn't stop just because I quit school. :) These days I make a living from writing about niches I knew nothing about at first.

    Hey silveraden,

I agree with most of your points but have to disagree with being an expert on a particular topic. I know many people who know nothing about the topics they targeted and make an ample amount of $$$ because they took the correct steps and measures to promoting their sites. Having unique content and driving targeted, organic traffic will make any niche successful given that there's good search volume and decent adsense payouts. Writing unique content isn't that hard once you spend some time to read up on a subject. You can always outsource the writing as there are tons of freelance writers here on DP and on the web. The articles don't have to be post-graduate works of art but instead they should be easy to read and provide value to the average reader.

Starting a flagship blog about broader and more competitive topics (making money online, etc) is a completely different beast and helps if you're an expert on that topic. You'll need to add fresh new content daily, weekly, monthly and spend a lot more time promoting it to move up in the SERPs. But when it comes to niche blogging with low competition, you really don't have know anything about the topic to make the site successful.

My motto has always been that dedication, persistence and patience are vital for success in any business venture.

    great post and topic silveraden

it is frustrating when you see people starting blogs on things like seo and then they ask questions here that proves they have hardly any knowledge on the topic themselves, and all they are really doing is copying or rewriting other people's work and information...... it is kind of misrepresentation and dishonest to start a blog purporting to be an authority source on a topic that you have no expertise on

rep added for a topic that needed to be said :)

A person who claims to be an expert never is. Its like this:

You learn offsite seo, theres now internal seo, oh theres now social bookmarking masted that? oh myspace facebook bebo, article writing press release writting article sunmissions directory submissions pressrelease submission A BC link exchanges link buying etc etc etc

Until a person can say they can do all that wihtout outsourcing and do it sucessfully there never an expert in seo and no one ever will theres not enough time in the day, week, month year to become it. Thats why SEO is so hard very few things remain constant and well searched terms can quickly stop (yes it can).

Blogging about a subject is just as important as keeping in touch with that toppic and staying updated on the news, i read 8 blogs a day and get emailed seo posts so i can make sure i know whats happening, if i had more time i would do more.

I get paid to do SEO by real businesses, does it make me an expert? no but i sure as hell do a good job :D

Okay okay... I think I overly interpreted other criterion...

I just hate seeing people asking stupid questions over and over again... What do you think the reason why there are a a lot of MFA sites? Because people wanted to take advantage of those highly paying keywords with reproduced contents and google hate it; advertisers hate it as well.

This is also the main reason why there's a lot of banned adsense account daily. Because people are doing any means just to earn even if it is against google TOS. They don't care about the content of their blogs. What they care about it how to make money and eventually the blog will close down when they get frustrated and demotivated to promote... This is also the reason why there's a lot of wasted domains and subdomains...

Those are the disadvantage of creating a blog w/o knowing what you are doing...

Yes, this is a public forum and everyone here can help you but the best thing to do before opening a blog with topic out of your expertise is to study about the topic first (the content). Not to copy others content because of high paying keywords.....

I disagree that any niche will make money. There are two things that prevent some niches from making money. One is a lack of ads, if it is adsense we are talking about for making money. The other is not enough traffic even if you dominate the niche.

I also agree with the poster who says try a niche you know nothing about. You can research something you know nothing about and make very nice informative pages. In fact the key to staying young and fresh is to learn something new, so try niches you know nothing about and dig into them.

agree with silveraden but you should have a network of sites
to earn more you begin with your field after that you learn more to make more
    that's all

As a starter, it is not good to have a network of sites... concentrate first on just one site... then after learning everything, let say after 6 months, thats the time you can explore...

My favorite are those with "how to make money online" blogs come here and ask "how come I am not making money online?".

They should be banned on the spot just for that.

agree with silveraden. I started a blog (my first) about freeware almost 2 weeks ago. I'm not trying to get rich with it, I would be happy for a $ a day. :) Just hoping I would have enough time for promotion...
