Too generally. For everyones is better to read Google specs than dozen of other formulas.

Great tips... Just go and check how tnx.net ranks for "text links", "text link ads" etc. Would you like similar rankings for your site?

Why would TNX want to rank high by these or any other keywords?

If you are not sure you should either test things on your own, or learn from other people. Do not write anything about something you are not sure about.

You dont have to have backlinks to rank well in Google! That is a slight myth... of course pagerank does play a part when competiting for top and high searched keywords... but in reality, Google is smart. They know what good content is and will rank you high if you are relevant to the search and have really high quality content. To get to #1 you only need a few backlinks, if you have good content, naturally others will link back to you, and word of mouth advertising takes part.

Take the search as an example, an article from Tru Design Media, a website I did some programming for. They posted an article, brand new domain, and yet, had an article placed on page one in 18 hours for a high competitive phrase (18,000,000 broad) - (7,000 exact). 0 Page Rank, 0 Backlinks until recently, and a domain name only registered recently. Google liked the article, and actually placed them above their own investor.google domain, So good content, good writing, and proper navigation on a website plays a part. Simply put, follow the web standards guidelines and Google's quality guidlines, have unique content, can be similar to others, but even a sentence the same can have an effect on your SERP... and a good navigational website you can follow using lynx! If you cant follow it without graphics, without javascript, then you better redesign, or restructure your framework.

Good sites get good ranking, its not always about pagerank!

Dont agree with using different anchors, as if you are the site on the net with the most backlinks for a specific keyword then you should rank no.1 for that keyword

wpgcoder, what you said is true. Content is the god when it comes to ranking, but what if your competitors also have good content .... hmmm, that's when link building starts to take place.

    Very interesting post thanks,

It would be useful to elaborate on your views on this point:

Do you have recomedations for speed of placement say for a new site, or a new page on an old site.
i.e. how many a day if you follow your advice on start with PR0 and PR1 and when to move up in PR?

I would be interested to hear your views, but either way, thanks for a nice post.
