Ofcourse it is, but welcome back to reality.

Well CTR is just a ratio and nothing.. My CTR always remain below 2 but I earn quite well.
It all depends on how many pages do your site have and how the visitors are using the site. If the average page/visit by a visitor is 10 or more than CTR will obviously fall. Its is obvious that a site having more pages say 100+, the CTR will be low. But that doesn't mean that earning will be less. A CTR will always be high for a site which have 4 of 5 pages only.

A 1% to 2% CTR for a big site with more pageviews is as same as 10-20% for a small site with less pages.

why do people come up with the statistic of 5% an ideal click thru rate? this is complete bull.. the best click through rate is the highest rate you can achieve without doing anything against googles tos.

    CTR Depends on following:

Suppose your CTR for a cabins and this keyword is 1.5% CTR what do u say it is good or bad? Usually a general keyword like cabins is very much popular keyword right and this kind of keyword generate lot more impression, but the percent of visitor actually click on ads is low. In this circumstances your CTR is 1.5% is good.

Now come to the 2nd point also Google instant has the following impacts on PPC industry.

    1. More exposure to generic keywords as compared to long tailed ones
    2. Keyword costs increasing as more and more advertisers would start bidding on these generic terms
    3. More traffic because majority of searchers would stop at generic terms to find their products
    4. All of the above stats would impact the CTR levels because many advertisers are now vying for the top spots

This would give us a clear picture of what impact on CTR.
