Google has begun experimenting with the unique Cuil search results layout of 3 columns in their Google Adwords. Does this mean Google is concerned with the launch of Cuil or just curious?
Well, goolges not going to just ignore it. Any bright ideas they come up with can be taken on board by google, but seriously, I doubt they will be that concerned. They're not going to give up the top position with out a fight, even if it is an easy victory.
This is smart of Google, you are never too big to learn, nor are you too knowledgeable to pick up new things. This move shows that Google is forever looking at the market picking up new knowledge that it feel can enhance its offerings and implementing them lightning speed. Google really isn't a huge clumsy giant, if Elephant can Dance, Google is that elephant.
I have tried cuil to search for a few keywords and the results are not useful. I changed back to google eventually. However, I will still give cuil some time to prove itself.
I think it's just a pure coincidence. Anyway, I don't see Cuil posing any threat in years to come. They are still far behind.
I doubt that they are doing this "in response" to Cuil. Or out of fear. In terms of experimenting with a 3 column layout, I see no reason why Google shouldn't do that. I doubt that it will take the place of the standard result layout that Google has used for the last 5 years. I suspect that The Cuil people probably used this layout because Google had considered it before (they are all supposedly x-Google employees over there) I see no reason why Google search shouldn't employ multiple format styles for their search results. Every forum & CMS allows "skinning" or "theming" which can be chosen by the user to improve their user experience. Google could implement that approach too.
I doubt its just a coincidence that Google would experiment with the same layout as cuil. Obviously Google is going to watch every move cuil makes. Google realizes that this is the only competitor with the technical potential to match or beat Google. When I tried cuil, the first thing I noticed and liked was the 3 column layout. Google sees that this is the only advantage that cuil currently has over them. So why not do a little test to see if it could work for them too. I don't think they'll adopt this layout though. It wouldn't work well with their advertisement focused strategy. For that reason I don't think they would've considered this layout before. The guys at cuil were some of the brains at Google. So they don't need to steal ideas when they're the ones coming up with them. Cuil does obviously need a lot of work to compete with Google. They are well aware of that. It will take some time before they are ready for a real launch with some major advertising. Google has reason to be worried about these guys.
the same thing was said when Google first came out. what's a boring piece of input bar doing in the middle of a webpage? lol take a look at them now. we will never know the future my friend
I have to disagree Mr. Nice Guy Cuil is a joke. When I first discovered Google I (and I think millions of others) said "Finally!". I think most people can immediately appreciate the lack of fluff.
