I see the number visitors to DP directory forum falling down compared with before. It looks there are more and more ads ,harsh debates and comments in this directory forum Or maybe we can blame Google that 'degrades' web directory so people losing interest? Still I visit this section frequently as a directory owner...
You must remember that DP is not all about just having a directort category for webmasters! There is a huge community here with many a category. Having said that, DP's traffic has decreased massively over the last several months and especially since last year summertime. I kind of expected it to pick up July and August as students around the world are on holidays but we'll have to see how that pans out.
Maybe that's becaue your thread was down to many pages, and only in the first page of the directory forum will receive significant traffic.
I don't post in the directory section anymore, but i come in here to submit to directories and read threads to hopefully learn something new or what i should start doing. Everyone needs to blow off some steam once and awhile and it's ok to do it in here. It's the summer, school, is out and people are doing outside things, taking vacations..etc Yes the traffic would be slow cause of this. When school starts up, people will be back online at DP and not paying attention in school. (Well that's what i would do if i was in school still)
I have been posting less it seems as well, just because I have so much work to do. But the mods and admins are doing some cleaning, so hopefully we will all be able to post in the directory section again without the unwanted insults, PM's, and fights that were occuring.
Anyone who has an ounce of sense wouldn't post on here any more if they don't want to get into fights about who's taller than who, and wants to achieve any level of success, this place is seen by most serious people as a bad neighborhood and it won't ever recover because everyone seems paranoid about everyone else. You had it right with the summer thing and school being out, it does seem that most posters on here (the directory area at least) are actually young kids, most of those who come here are out playing at hide and seek or playing kiss chase with their next door neighbours. Just my 0.02c
RECAP most of the posters are just young kids serious people won't post here anymore the issue is that we're paranoid DP is known as "a bad neighborhood" LOL... well, that about covers most of the required talking points. Thanks Searchboyglobal. Many thanks for today's edition.
Some of my favorite, veteran posters have quit posting in the directory forum, so I've pretty much lost interest in the forum itself. I do surf Directory > Solicitations a few times a week to do some periodic directory submission.
I think that directories have become very saturated, where there are thousands and thousands of them now. I mostly pop by to submit to the free directories when they are listed.
Google will not slap you if you working correctly. As a directory owner you must know what i mean with "correctly".
I wouldn't blame gaygle for the degradation of the forums, however, the crew of who was bringing this place down has been rightfully 'processed' and the forums shouldn't be seeing the type of negativity that it had been seeing over the past several months. I expect it to get somewhat better now; Guess we'll see.
Blame? Why don't we thank them... less useless websites to worry about. It's not like directories are actually helping, all they do is link to a website and once the directory gives enough links they start selling ads. It's not like they were even trying to help people, they simply link to websites. The point of creating a directory was for people to find websites of certain categories, but wants to go to a directory when theres google. So let's not blame them, but rather thank them.
My take - People sell PR People get penalised People complain People who wern't selling PR laugh at those that sold it People who got laughed at were unhappy People continued to sell PR People acted like they knew too much People selling a directory script told them some home truths People selling directory scripts should have been less honest and more friendly People selling directory scripts got banned People spamming their directories in the wrong forums made this place look a mess And I think we are @ today again
Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Well, I agree Mikey
@searchboy - Noticing someone is doing what they've done in the past and said they'd do in the future isn't called being "paranoid", just "observant". If anything the experience has had a salutary effect... no doubt many will have developed an entirely new perspective on the potential pitfalls of human cloning.
