Hi, while analyzing my site on different tools for SEO purpose...I found this advice "www.example.com" and "example.com" appears two different sites for search engine...you must redirect... The questions here I want to ask....does it play big role in SEO? Also I am building most backlinks from example.com (without www) With WWW I have 282 indexed pages and without WWW 612 Can I redirect www.example.com to example.com ? If Yes how? If I do this will it effect my Search Engine Ranking and Backlinks? Thanks, kutchi
Its to help prevent URL Canonicalization and it is important. Yes you can redirect from www.example.com to example.com using a htacess file, if you are hosted on linux. This can effect search engine ranks greatly. Making the change may also see a slight dip until the search engine figures out the new changes. I would advise in submitting your site using Google Webmaster Tools as there is an option within the control panel to tell Google you prefer to use the non www. version of your site.
ok... Thanks for the reply....can you guide me how to do with .htaccess.... I have seen that option in google webmaster tool I will do it from there... Should I wait till the next update of google? ...not to loose backlinks and rankings till then Thanks for the help +rep for you
if you want to redirect than change your linux hosting htaccess file that only effect properly to your url. without www url is best . Regards Krunal
