One of my busy forum sites encountered this problem. The message is posted below:

    Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

How shall I prevent and fix it?

Can you connect to the DB manually, using command line?

Maybe you just had too much traffic and your server couldn't handle it?

Hi Jay, it's back now. But it happens from time to time.

    1,000 visitors a day. 1 million pageviews a month.

Check you aren't using persistent connections in your script, and you may want to tweak your MySQL configuration (providing you have root) to allow more connections.

    Hi Jay,

I'm fairly new to server management. I'm on shared webhosting. How to check and implement those things?

Do you have the 'root' login?

I'm sorry, Jay. I don't know what a root login is. I just login in cpanel. and if I change something, I just go to File Manager.

    Hi,

Sorry, I misinterpreted "I'm fairly new to server management." as you went on to say "I'm on shared webhosting.". You'll need to contact your host about this then, sorry.
