    No, but then use a dark background color and make sure its clearly visible.

    You can use any text color but remember it must not match with the background color. Else you will penalize for the hidden text.

    If you mean white text on a white background -it's an example that google quite specifically gives of something that is likely to be penalised - http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66353&query=text+color&topic=&type=

    Using white text on a white background ...Hidden links are links that are intended to be crawled by Googlebot, but are unreadable to humans ....If your site is perceived to contain hidden text and links that are deceptive in intent, your site may be removed from the Google index, and will not appear in search results pages.

    It doesn't matter as long as the text or links is visible to your readers.
