What happened to my SERPs

    Hi,

Just joined to forums so I would first of like to say hi to everyone!

    I have a site, itreallyisfree.com

and yesterday morning it was ranked on page 3 for the term 'Free iPhone 3G' and page 4 for the term 'Free iPhone', whereas tonight (and it has been like this since yesterday around lunch time) it is ranked on page 4 for 'free iphone 3g' and page 18! for 'free iphone'. What the hell has happened, the funny thing is, I haven't lost any inbound links, I have actually gained about 8 since yesterday morning (I currently have about 69 inbound links), so does anyone know what is going one?

    Kind Regards

Search engines, especially google frequently change their algorithms and this can positively or adversely affect your rankings.

I'm going to make this assumption from the top of my head: you will not rank well for such a targeted work with 67 inbound links.

I can guarantee you this was the "new site" benefit that Google gives. The real test comes to hold that ranking. I've done it, but you need a massive amount of genuine backlinks. Any good SEO worker can help you out with that. Good luck!

Just be used to it, google frequently changes the SERPs depends on their algorithm. Maybe some of the site that has the same keywords as yours gained greater backlinks.

The same thing happens with my website. In the day time my website with main keyword is on page 2 in google and in the night it is on the 3rd page. It is not a big issue. Better you have to concentrate on link building. The ranking will improved day by day.

Yea same thing happened for me, but I expected it. I ranked for a week or so #1 on google and dropped to page 10 or w/e. Just keep building the links and add some good content.

Do you mean new content benefit or new site benefit. I have never heard of the latter and it is not logical.

New site benefit- and on the contrary. New sites should get a chance to outrank older ones that might have more backlinks shouldn't they? After all, how are new resources going to be found if only resources that have a huge amount of backlinks over a long period of time make the top 10?

This is nothing new, this has been happening for a long time.

EDIT: I also forget to mention that a website I launched 3 weeks ago already has 711 hits from google, and I rank #6 for keywords that are extremely competitive. I'm beating websites that are much older than mine and have been around for years. I've seen this on all of my domains, not just my most recent.

It's Google algorithm and nobody tell you exactly what is it only google can so don't think about this and concentrate on your onpage and ofpage and get quality back link with following google's guidelines

if this problem last for a couple of days maybe it affect your IBL.
google ranking, theres no guarantee that you are always on top. or should i say on rank. the most important here was. continuing to update your site and link build. so that you still got the best result.

It's normal as SE's are always updating. You need to build more links on your site in order to maintain your ranking position.

Thanks so much for all your help, but how does this happen:

    this site: freeiphone4u.co.uk

is on page 1 with just 32 inbound links!

and I now have 71 inbound and im on page 18

    (for the term 'free iphone')

how the hell do you explain that!

I read the article you cited and, but I should have bought a cake and six candles. That is how old it is!
I also think you have grossly misinterperated what was said.
Aaron mentions indexed pages, but does not actually mention landing on the first page of Google within three weeks with a new site, despite getting a shitload of paid links linke yahoo etc
    Read the article again.

    Old is good.

The very reason old is good is stated right there.
    Trustrank.
It is very hard to buy trustrank, and it is something that a new site just not have, unless you keyword was useless or you are a genius and discovered a new one at the right time.
A rival with a two month old site made a mistake boasting to me how much trafic he had freom a new undiscovered keyword. Bang. It was so easy to take this away from him with old sites.

This is what is actually happening with a new site
    1. It ranks well in the first two weeks for a few days, depending on how much juice is flowing to it. and how many bot visitors.
Actually the less juice, the longer it stays in the top ten.
    2. Not all Google bots are the same. Eventually depending on juice the age, and trustrank brigrade arrive..... and bang...... your site is #1000
    3. The length of time this stays here depends on dozens of factors, but a hell of a lot to do with how much adsense is opposite and the cost of the click,
and of as Wall says the quality of the inbound.

You are seeking to quantify a 280?? forumula algo with a single number, such as the inbound. It can be done but the maths involved are less complcated that seeking life on other planets based on about 8 algos!
Put simply the link weight is based on
    Context
    Trust
Age the link has been in place
    Page Title
    Other page links and context
Page rank which is the most famous because of the little green bar (heck I love gadgets) (you do relize that tool was stuck there just to keep us all busy which the G team work on the real serp stuff, boys and little toys?)
Plus about 20 or 30 factors.
    Do a List

    Now heres a unique thought.
What if we could identify which G bot was which, and just ban the ones we don't want visiting, like the age ones! Scary thought if you have shares.
