    Hello,

Is is true that CTR is very low on forums? I have a website that is actually just a forum :(

    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

very very true, in fact regular returning forum users don't even appreciate the ads being there it seems

but yes, low ctr is a given, and big busy forums tend to require alot of server resources too making them often cost more to run than they even come close to making

My site is a forum site, I have under 1% ctr. I'm going to go after pay per impression when I get a bit more traffic every day. Eventually I'll hopefully have sponsers that pay to have their ads on the site.

I own two new forums, the CTR is below 1% but CPC is high for me average 90 cents or more per click.
I think once you establish a good amount of members and place your ads in smart places you will be making decent money.

Nope.. it depends on you placement... I have mine constant at 1.75% to 2%.. I have ads on the first and last threads, ad every after first and last posts using VB deep adsense integration...

I am also using VB deep adsense integration. However, I still have pretty low traffic to consider my CTR. Thank you everyone for replies.

Try changine your ads colors and positioning and see what gives you the highest CTR. You will need to wait a reasonable amount of time between changes.
Forums get much lower CTRs than sites.

regulars don't like that kind of ad placements

it might work if you want alot of people to come once, and then not come back, but I think many forums that are popular with their users don't have ads all over the place like that (look at Digital Point for a great example)

if you want to build a good community with lots of returning posters then I think it is wise to be careful and not put too many obnoxious ads

    Yeah.. very low CTR..
I dont even display advertisements to my registered-members, but by combining Adsense and Kontera, i'm able to generate a few thousand $ per month from anonymous visitors..

agree with you totally Tearabite, registered users shouldn't have to deal with ads, it should be a perq for registering (an ad at the top is ok, but ads inside threads is bad for regulars for sure)

repeating traffic doesnt help your ctr

there is nothing you can do..

I would make 2 different google adsense units
Lets call them A and B

A will be visible to guests only
B will be visible to members only

On vbulletin you can easily set this up -_-

And see how many impressiosn you get from A

U might get 1000 from b but only like 100 from a -_- and on top of that the 100 u get probly 10% or so are from members about to login or log out
