Could someone explain me why my site, Utlys.no is on the first page of google.com with keywords like 'auksjon' and 'rubrikk', but not in google.no? I can't even find my site at all with those given keywords..
Ok, thanks for the response. I was curious since i couldn't find and still can't see it listed in position 17 or the following pages; http://www.google.no/search?hl=no&pwst=1&q=auksjon&start=10&sa=N
I cannot see you at all in google.no - scrolled a few pages. But you could try the following: - Set html lang="no" to tell Google it is in Norwegian - Log in to Google Webmaster Tools, confirm your site and set geographic target to Norway ("Angi geografisk mål")
I think those of you who see this site ranking high with these keywords are getting the results of non-norwegian DC's. I have access to different DC's trough proxy servers and I can also see the site ranking high in most of them, excluding *.no. Right. But the thing is that geographic location is already set to Norway or .no in my webmaster tools..
I wonder if different charsets might have any affect on rankings..? I am currently using iso-8859-9 which is not very common in norwegian sites.
Ok, i added one more language tag and it's now <html xmlns= "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="no" xml:lang="no" >. Looking forward to the next google update to see the result
The results wasn't very impressing, my site dropped from 88 to 98 position after the updates.. What is going on with my site and the SERPs?
By some reason big G thinks your site is not targeted to Norway. How do your rank on Yahoo and MSN, same problem? What about your backlinks - maybe most of them aren`t from Norway? Compare your links to your main competitors, maybe there is completely different link profile? How do you rank at Norwegian local search engines? Did such problem occur after some changes or is it since you launched this site?
Yes. G does still not recognize your language. Switch on Google.com to Norwegian and you do not rank there as well. But site ranks if you search via English for auksjon site:no. Maybe you still have somewhere defined your site as "english"
Thank you for all your replies. I was on the first page of *.no like 2 weeks ago, even I was using a english language meta tag. But the site has dropped drastically since then. So I tried to change the language tags to "no", but I am not quite sure if the effects of these changes has taken place yet. Personally i don't think so when i see the search results on *.com, where my site is located on 4th position. Here you can see it; http://surfproxy.us/?__new_url=aHR0...1OS0xJnE9YXVrc2pvbiZidG5HPUdvb2dsZStTZWFyY2g=
I would recommend to wait week or two before making any further changes, Google seems to build new index right now, maybe your rankings are back after that. You could build some more links from Norwegian sites same time.
