No! just write comments if they are necessary and don't post links in the comment. When you are submitting a comment there are two fields that let you enter Name and URL...post your URL there.
You can submit site to directories, exchange links, write unique content so that other people link to it.
@ njbdvb You don't need to create a site map for a blog. When you submit your sitemap through Google webmaster tools enter this address: http://URL.com/atom.xml
SEO and Traffic can be 2 entirely different thing though.. If you want to do SEO, then you should know that it might take some time. I am assuming that your site has very good on-site optimization done. You can try to submit articles to article directories, and that will help you to have backlinks to your site, and that can increase help ur PR while in the same time bringing in targeted traffic from people doing searches online. You might want to consider getting some bloggers to write about your website too, and that will worth the all the investment. And to get traffic, without focusing much on SEO is, you can try submitting answers to Yahoo Answers, leave comments on other blogs who provide similar contents. IMO, that's the best way to get targeted traffic in the shortest amount of time. Hope that helps.
Just have a blog and submit it to Google Webmaster site so that it can be indexed by google. Then submit the sitemap.
As you are new to the SEO so it good to hire a traffic expert who will perform SEO tactics on your website and gets unique traffic to your website rather than learning what SEO is? and SEO tactics are ? and how to perform them ?
First start out with good content and just try to optimize your site for good Key Phrases not words because words will be to hard at the start. Eventually you can work your way up.
