Ebay is in a very comfortable position, having established itself in a profitable niche with extremely great communities. I would expect it to milk its cash cow more and venture towards other related areas. It is a strong Internet player that is going to last a long time. Not as famous or profitable as Google but still a great company nonetheless.

As much as I wish PP to go down I won't think this will happen. Just because people are starting to complain doesn't mean a big corporation like EBay will go down, but we can hope that this complains will make them reconsider their strategies and improve their customer support.

Customer support seemed to be a problem with PP as well as all major companies. I feel that the main problem is the outsourcing of customer support rather than grooming the companies' own customer support personnel. Cost wise it is definitely cheaper to outsource but it seemed that outsourced customer support really doesn't live up to expectations, IMHO.

As hard as I tried I only ever managed to get through to speak to an actual person at paypal once. And even when that happened, all they said was to visit the website and read through some instructions, which I had already done, which is why I was ringing them! Really bad support, moneybooker, despite not being the same size as PP, have amazing customer support, all my tickets were answered with a relevant answer within a few hours

Every time I called paypal (2-3 times) my problems were solved in a few minutes, but that was a few months ago, I don't know how things are now. About moneybookers, I had some problems with them also, those were solved fast but with a fax.

In the UK, if you try and ring PP then you will be sent straight to a computer voice, and all it does is tell me my balance!

They are not doing as well as they once were, but there will always be a new generation who would keep using them enough to keep it going.

As I do agree that paypal is the best out there and maybe even the most widely used, but the problem is with the sellers protection.. . there is none. Let's say someone paid you for a project like web design. They can just contact paypal and file a clam stating they was not happy with the work and paypal will give them a full refund. They will say since the product was "tangible" the buyer will get a full refund. Such events like this had happened to me many times when dealing with paypal.

They are multitude of loyal ebay and paypal worshippers that depend on these two companies to earn their living online...

If both of them are gone, it will be the end of the world...lol

Buying stuff on eBay isn't bad, you can pick up stuff quite cheap on there, you know, the small bits and pieces you may need, but I know selling on there can be expensive. My only problem with them two are the fees involved, but they both provide a good service.

That will be a big if. Sure they took some beating for the purchase of Skype, other than that they seem to be playing their cards quite well. Don't expect that anytime soon.

Ebay, hmm, Ebay sometimes is good for the buyer. As the other member said, it's everyday there're new rules that don't make any sense. I think there should be another company out there that will compete with ebay.
Untill then , ebay will remain the number one site for auction.

As for Paypal, i think there's no competitor out there yet, and i don' think it's going down anytime soon.

    Thanks ,

Ebay is the equivalent of Google and Microsoft.

It's so big, it can afford to buy out it's competitors.
