i forgot to renew one of my domains and now its in pending time so i asked them to renew it they said it will cost about 70$ my friend told me to backorder it from godaddy with only 18 but he is not sure if i will get it or not, do i have to pay 70$ or ifi backordered it i will get it back ?
You can order it on backorder on godaddy but theres a risk you can lose it. If its one you really want I think you'll have to shell out.

There is a chance that you will get it with backorder but if other people are keeping an eye on it, your chances are low. I say you renew it.

It depends on the service you used for backordering. People use different companies for this purpose and these companies then compete each other by checking the status of the domain again and again. Once they have the domain, they either ask you to make a bid for it - and if there are other people who used this service then they will be also asked to place a bid. Highest bidder takes it. And there are some companies that just give you the domain once they have it for a nominal fee. ( I once read about all this on some blog.......try to find it on Google ) If this is good domain that you want to keep with you then paying $70 is a safe option.
If you back order the domain name and don't get it you will be out $500 If you just go ahead and renew it you will only be out $70.
Yes...if it's important to you, do not risk backordering. Plus, if the offer is serious, you will easily get back the $70 that you invest. Consider it an investment. Another thing...the person who offered the $500 might have noticed that it has not been renewed and may try backordering too. .
