Could submitting to directories hurt your PR?

I am noticing all of these directory submission services and it is tempting to try it out. I want to know if there is such thing as over submitting your website or poorly submitting your website which could hurt your websites page rank?
    Thanks for any comments.

I wouldn't say hurt. I would only submit to directories with a high PR to start with. All I am going to say is that directories are starting to have no point anymore. Most of their inner pages will not even be indexed. All I would worry about is DMOZ. :)

At most they don't help your PR, but I seriously doubt that they will hurt your PR. If that happens I would be happily submitting the web sites of my competitors.

i see a lot of directories crawled more often than DMOZ http://www.seometer.com/web-directories/
so before you submit to a directory checkall parametres and dont put them all in one basket ;)

thanks for that list. Most of the sites on that list cost money to submit. Some $45. Is it really worth that much to have your link on a directory like that even if the PR is 5.

I take a few minutes every day and pound through one of the many web directory lists out there. I figure it can't hurt and it only takes a few minutes of my time. It's like a lottery ticket. Most of them probably won't help, but some of them will.

No, submitting to directories is still the most important part of today's SEO.

Submitting to directories is one of the most important things to do when you start to promote your website. But be aware, don't trust every directory, sometimes it can hurt if the directory owner goes crazy and does some black hat seo, which can be malicious to your website too. High pagerank directories don't offer more benefits from new ones because your link will always be on a page that does have NO pagerank at all. Links from directories = links from different ip location = one more link = good for serps and maybe pagerank. Local and niche directories can be beneficial depending on your website. I don't recommend paid directories, bidding is just waste of money, you get nothing for. If your targetted audience are all the webmasters and seo submitters yes you can pay for a text or banner BUT only on the main page of the directory where PR is high and if there's no NO FOLLOW attibute for your link.
Just what I think of directories :)

I have developed 15+ PR5 domains and mostly all with directory submissions. OFC there are some little tricks and advanced metodes, but basicly submissions to directoryes are well worth.
