I totally agree. You need to be at the top of a list that people are searching for.

Having the time and experience...This is hard for most.... This is why we offer small business SEO services. We had more time than money at one point... So we learned out of need. Most small businesses have little of both.

Your best bet is to find authority SEO sites where SEO and SEM is what they do for a living and go from there.

Originally we spent 400 hours learning before we launched our first site. We have spent another 1,000 hours over the last year to stay fresh. If you want to succeed to takes time and effort.

I think you have to be really careful who you have work on your site. I have used a SEO and it was a waist of money and time. They made promises and I kept waiting for my site to improve. In the mean time they kept charging me money and I saw no results. When I questioned them, because they said they had a money back guarantee, they said they did exactly what was in the contract. They had raised ranking with certain keywords in all these different search engines, yet I was getting no traffic. I finely stop using them and started doing my own work.

Yes, we did it so often for our cleaning business that we closed it and open an SEO business. Its the old if there is a will then there is a way.

Hi there, I certainly have paid. When I first launched my site I soon realised that I didnt have the knowledge to compete against the other dating sites. This is going back 1 year now. Obviously it wasnt economically viable to keep paying for SEO at the early stage of the sites existance. Over the 5-6 months I paid, I watched, listened and learnt. Ive been doing all the SEO for 3 months now, and my site maintains its page 1 rank for competitive keywords. So some of us have to pay until we learn what to do. Its not that difficult, but can be time consuming to get the results.

I totally agree with you. It does require a lot of time and effort, as everyone wants to achieve a listing at the top of the search results.

Well, my campaign to get the site I'm working on to the top of the SERPs involves spending money, but It's not like I'm giving someone a sum of money and leaving them the responsibility to get it there.

Well the crazy thing about SEO or SEM is in order to determine if someone is ripping you off and just taking your money for very little. IS you need to know SEO tactics yourself and if you did then you probably would not need to hire anybody.
Ask for testomonials and previous results if they have happy customers then they should be good

I would not recommend paying as you are likely to get scammed.
    stick to doing it yourself

Years ago when I knew even less than I do now - yes it is possible I paid a company to get me ranked on the first page for a variety of keywords. Even though I didn't know much the trouble started when they wanted to "guarantee" first page ranking on keywords that would do me little if any good. Next, after six months the contract stated that failure to get me on the first page on any one of those keywods entitled me to a pro rata refund, all of it. Well I never got my money, they were in Illinois and I wasn't going to go to Illinois to sue them and Federal Court was not possible.

Moral of the story: There are reputable seo and sem individuals out there, the trouble is there are also those who can't do what they promise. Further and I think an even bigger problem is when you have someone do it for you what do YOU learn? I put off learning seo by paying others to do it for me and ultimately I needed to learn it and in my very humble opinion, so do you. That is my nickels worth earned in the school of hard knocks!
