what i think about the vista and xp fiasco is this If you get a machine with vista shipped already it works a charm its very stable i can leve my pc running for days without rebooting unlike xp where i got lock ups every 20mins - the only problem i have with it is the wirless is sh&t it just constantly disconnects even though im sat next to the hub + firefox always shows server not found when typing in a url but i hit f5 and it loads, it will never load 1st time. but as i said for me being shipped on a laptop it runs smooth and fast no lock ups, the problems with vista when people upgrade the versions from m$ just arent as good as the OEM versions i dont know why. another problem is people are trying to upgrade on old crap machines that cant handle the past of the new system, people are getting pent 4 machines sticking a gb ram stick in and hoping for it to run like a nasa super computer, 1gb ram is douable 2gb runs good 4gb or going on to 64 bit = super great, also i think nowadays a dual core pc is a need for running vista, people complain saying why do i need all this hardware, but usually the people saying this are running machines from the ninties wanting to run modern day apps, another complaint about people are the ones complaing about backwards compatability 95% of software is capable with vista all my software is all my friends software is we have several hundred machines at my uni running vista ultimate there all compatible with software from all the other departments and students computer, if your software isnt compatitble its likely to be old and out-dated and the developer of it obviously isnt keeping up with times and providing a working one, or the software is very specialized - the only time ive had a compatibilty issues is on windows server 2008 where i couldnt install a firewalll but because my license didnt cover servers finally people dont have a open mind there stuck in there ways bumming xp they wont give vista a chance or give time to learn how to use it properly, if people spent the time researching a good computer to use and how to navigate around vista and use it properly your computing experiance would go through the roof and you can spend less time bit^%ing about how much you hate vista, and if you really hate vista dont bi^%h about it spend a hour of your life re-installing xp so you can waste your time on system lock ups than complaing on here and giving my ears/eyes a rest
I use Vista, and I'm ok with it minus the HUGE amount of bugs it has. Processes don't end, and thus I need to restart my computer more often than usual. Programs stop functioning. Alot of programs are not compatible. I'd install XP again, if I wasn't so lazy.
Lets see, Vista loads very slowly, runs slowly, won't run half of the programs I need it to, is a huge memory hog etc..... XP Pro doesn't crash (not in the 6 years or so I have run it!) runs all of my programs perfectly, doesn't bog my system down with so much bloat code trying to be everything to every one. If MS really wanted to kick some ass with Vista, they could have just made XP look like Vista does and they would have had a winner. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Errrrrrr probably because you don't have enough? I upgraded to Vista last year and it ran horribly on my old machine, so I just bought a new one and it runs perfectly, in fact much better than XP. With Vista Ultimate, at the same time I can run Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, SQL server, Outlook, FTP program, 8 Terminal Services windows and the CPU sits at around 25% with the memory at about 60-70%. It seems to be able to handle multitasking alot better than XP thats for sure.
Should we really have to upgrade our hardware for a new OS that doesn't provide a lot more features than the previous OS? An OS should be lean, an not use any more resources than absolutely necessary for the applications the user wants to run. Unused features simply waste resources.
Pentium E2140 @ 1.6GHZ 1GB DDR2 667MHZ 160GB 7200RPM SATA Nvidia GeForce 7300GS DVD Reader MSI NEO F The above specs are from my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. I have to say: Vista runs great! Aero is smooth, and... uh... Nothing. Apart from Aero, there are no big things that really make it worth getting. So yes, Windows Vista runs fine. But under the pretty skin (Which is starting to get distracting!), it's just good ol' Windows. What's the point of having Aero if it gets disabled every time you use one of your favourite applications? On Vista, when you press F2 to rename a file, it only highlights the filename, not the file extension. Those are the sort of things that we like. These things, when you get used to them, can help efficiency while doing things. What we don't need, is incompatibility issues. What some people have to understand, is that now Microsoft has created the most popular operating system in the world, they really have a contract with their users. What do I mean by this? Well, when you go out and buy Windows Vista, you're buying an operating system. You go and buy Windows Vista because you want a nice new OPERATING SYSTEM!!! You're not looking to buy a new version of that cool old game you play. You're not looking to buy a new version of Office, or a new version of the C compiler that you use. You're not looking to buy new versions of all that other expensive software. So remember, when you buy Vista, you're actually spending a lot more time and money than you think you are... Another thing I hate about Vista: Why does it show the version of Vista you have installed at the login screen? Honestly, I don't care what version of Vista I have when I log in. When I want to know what version i'm running, i'll check the retail box that I bought it in, or i'll run the welcome center. Duh. UAC speaks for itself. UAC is like a brick wall on a highway. The new file security tab. At least they've now doubled something! The amount of clicks it takes to give write permissions to the IUSR account for a file or folder. Gosh. Flip3D is a bit of a waste of space. What can it achieve that ALT+TAB can't? What I really want, is a checkbox in the start menu properties that reads this: "Enable that annoying thing that opens the list of all of your programs in a tiny space on your monitor so you can't see it". My brother and I did a quick test. You see, my brother likes Apple computers. I can see why, too. They're damn sexy ! Anyway, we wanted to see who could open their media center application and play a certain song the fastest. So he opened Front Row, and I opened Media Center. What was the result? Well, the songs started playing at exactly the same time. So we called it a draw. Because my brother accidentally closed the program just before he found the song. So Media Center is also useless. Everyone says how they like the new audio mixer in Vista. I disagree. Everyone except everyone that uses Line In to play through the speakers likes the new mixer. Because it doesn't work without an extra application. When I open the mixer, I want to be able to see every possible sound input/output, and if it's not there, then at least they could have made an option to put it there! Try searching IIS in Control Panel. You won't find it. You have to search for it from the start menu, now. Lots of applications now have permission problems because of UAC. When I disabled UAC, I suddenly noticed lost of cool features in the applications I use every day that work properly now! If you support UAC, then that's OK I guess. But not all applications have one .exe file. In fact, most applications have lots of executable files that need admin privileges. But no. You can't select them all at once and tick "Run This Program As Administrator". You have to do them all one by one. Well there you go. Another minor thing, but it all adds up! Why the hell should anybody upgrade if they have to through all of this crap, eh?
i'm not against vista, I just didn't see that many enhancements that deemed it necessary to have several versions of a new OS.
Ok since someone else just bumbed this redundant thread. Vista is the newest operating system for windows. I got used to it quite easily. Either bitch about it or switch to another operating system.
I am using Vista and I think it works fine with my notebook but there are some instances wherein some programs have troubled working and the yahoo messenger for vista isnt that good to used as well.
Y'all with Vista problems need to get to the real root of the problem and figure out what's going. I run nothing but Vista on my 4+ computers and it's as great as can be. Yes, it needs a little more juice... at least 2gb of ram, dual-core CPU, etc. makes it run much better. The MAIN thing I like about Vista is the great x64 (64-bit) compatibility. I'm running a quad-core with 8GB of RAM on Vista x64 and she's as fast and powerful as I could ever hope for it to be. And of course, disable UAC... -Scott
I saw this post and decided I have to defend Vista! I think it looks much better then xp and is a lot easier to find my stuff I dont see why people like xp better either... if they say glitches, I dont have any problems with Vista.
this thread is over a year old lol! But yea I think vista is better than xp, because I actually have the 4GB ram and 600GB of disk it deserves
That's the defining difference between Vista and XP users. I've broken it down to two categories: Vista users have nice hardware, and thus run Vista. XP users have old hardware, and complain about Vista. If I had a crappy computer, I would use XP as well. But I have excessive amounts of memory, disk space, and processing cycles, so I run Vista which never crashes, I never have to shut down, and is compatible with everything I've installed as a gamer and professional graphic designer.
vista is slow.but xp had almost all the problems that vista has when xp was first launched.over time it was rectified.i think so it will be with vista.but as for me i prefer xp at this time
