Which version do u like better?? I used both but 1.5 is sure lack of availability of components and support, so i didnt switch over to 1.5 yet.
I still use 1.0xx because some components I need still not available in 1.5xx or in legacy mode. Maybe if they already 1.5 native I'll upgrade to 1.5xx.
Yeah I'm still using 1.0 on all my 'live' sites due to the amount of components that I use which aren't ready for 1.5 yet. I've played around with 1.5 and like it, can't wait for it to get more mainstream. Tom.
I'm slowly migrating over to 1.5. All of my real sites are still 1.1.15. I like it fine, but it needs just a bit more age on it.
I agree with you better slowly, many people are crying when their site got errors after migrate from 1.0xx to 1.5xx, and many of the error cause by legacy component. Except you make a new site, there is no problem use 1.5xx
Good Read Joomla Template Kit 3.X Manual http://www.m65.net/articles-joomla!-joomla-template-kits-tutorials-joomla-template-kit-3.x-manual-76.html
I played with joomla for 1.5 years. I am a php developer and was trying to develop an very in depth classified ads engine. Joomla is like this. You work and work and work and all the while read how you are having fun. Jomlas' API limits developers in terms of application depth. I was very limited in the features I could provide in my application due to their API. Later I read about drupal. Before sinking the hook deeper and switching to joomla 1.5 I suggest looking into drupal. Read about the struggles the developers go through. the easier it is to develop the faster you can get apps and cheaper for custom apps. Joomla is a huge step forward from postnuke, but still is a step forward from post nuke. The interface is nice and clean, but application depth will only allow you so much. Joomla is the most popular CMS at the moment it seems, but IE is the most popular browser too. lol BTW I am in no way affiliated with Drupal nor do I have a single drupal site. I recommend it after reading their documentation and talking with fellow PHP developers. Around DC it is used more than joomla to set up lobbyist sites for its scalability. All I am saying is look before you jump.
I don't know about "look before you jump", it's not exactly much of a leap - they are both free after all. As for Joomla I keep meaning to try 1.5, installed it a couple of time, but keep going back to 1x because I know it so well and can't be arsed learning the new template system in 1.5 at the moment.
Does anyone know of a good Joomla vs. Drupal comparison page/blog post? I've been following Drupal and know quite a bit about it, but having used Joomla a lot I'd like to see where it really wins out - I've heard many people say it does so I'm inclined to believe them! Tom.
Here's an interesting trend ... http://www.google.com/trends?q=joomla,+drupal&ctab=0&geo=all&geor=all&date=all&sort=0 It appears that Joomla is more a more popular search term, but Drupal is on the rise ... conclude what you will...
Even more interesting is that Joomla is more searched than Wordpress!! http://www.google.com/trends?q=joomla,+drupal,+mambo,+wordpress&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
I'm going with 1.5 all the way. The site set-up and management are much more intuitive, though sadly like 1.0 good SEF url's are still a little buggy. The built-in SEF is better in 1.5, sure, but it still makes mistakes. Too bad Joomla and Drupal don't just shake hands...
Are they even close? I would thnink there's plenty of room in the sandbox. Joomla's more of an application platform. Drupal seems to be more focused on Social Networking, and Wordpress seems to be more of a blog platform. I've chosen to standardize on Joomla because I am more of a programmer.
Joomla 1.5.x is the best frame work, there are so many features available in 1.5.x compare to 1.0.x. Most of the very popular components are now migrating to 1.5.x support. Now most of new components are coming in 1.5.x version only. SEO url also supporting using default settings. For developers also , it is very easy to develop extensiopn.
