Hi All Im well confused. I have a blog that don’t get any promo apart from about three directories that I submitted it to and its gone from a zero to a one. I have a football site I paid to be submitted to about 200 directories. It has stayed at zero. I would have expected this to go up to at least a one. My recruitment site has stayed at a PR2 Im happy with this but would have liked it to have gone up. I will be working hard to get this one well up there for the next update. I have a directory that has gone to a PR1 and another that I was advised would go to a PR3 stay at zero. Is the idea to build links and just keep doing that. But aim for quality links. How can I get my sites to have better PR? Im obviously doing something wrong! Thanks James
I will suggest get only the quality backlink from other website then directories. You can get it through link exchange or buy some quality backlink
Its sounds like you've already been wasting your money buying backlinks PR is not the be an all! relavant in bound links with good anchor text! PR is just a small part of the algo, I wouldnt even bother looking at it
PR is overrated (and pretty much proven useless). Backlinks appear to be useless as being proven right now. In fact, it appears quality content is pretty much useless for PR ranking too. All that matters is SERPs. My suggestion would be to build quality content. Submit it to Digg and other social websites. Get involved with forums in your niche and have your link in your signature. This will spread by word of mouth.
dont use seo services like submit to thousands of directories this can drop your ranking. Submit to few directories in a day or few in a week.
Geez really, what source did you get this from? Im not saying you are wrong, its just that time and time again I've been told quality inbound links from relavant sites and good anchor text + good content are the key can you point me to an article that suggests this, I've been through the matt cutts videos and blogs but I dont buy every thing he says.
I had two sites one month old with minimal backlinks that went from 0 to 2, and the one site where I had lots of backlinks, some being relevant purchased ads is a PR 1. So clearly google is penalizing for purchased ads and purchased backlinks. I've learned a good lesson, there's no point to make a conscious effort to increase PR, just work on my content and seo for serp.
Forget PR and concentrate on content. The most important part is the readership, don't let an algorithm bring you down.
Hi All Thanks for some good replies. I have read that tool bar PR is not that important. The thing is rightly or wrongly I do use it to compare my site / sites with other sites in the same nich. I will use my recruitment site as an example. I have a PR2 I had PR2 last time so it has stayed the same. Content is as good as whats posted by recruitment companies. I just have jobs on there that they display. I am slowly trying to add articles but there are only so many things to write about recruitment. Its also difficult as I dont have the source code for the software. I cant afford it at the moment. I have posted several times on Yahoo answers. I dont want to do this to much or it may look like thats the only reason I use it. In a way I guess it is but I also want to help to build up the brand as a friendly reliable source. I am also posting on a forum but the forum keeps being hacked so its down more than its up. I will continue to do what I have been doing and try to add more content. James
Hey James... seems you are quiet a troubled soul... ok... let me try and help... see to increase the PR of your site... it is very important that you get some good quality links yo your site... by quality links i mean sites with 3+ PR nothing less then that... and how can you get that... by using social bookmarking sites like digg.com, delecious.com etc... blog commenting and adding your links do help alot... plus there is no need to pay money to get listed in useless directories... where no one searches anymore... however if you want to do this... you can submit your site to free directories... they wont help either but at least they are free... submit your site to search engines... but before all this make your site SEO rich... SEO rich does not mean... fill your site with keywords... do a little reading before moving ahead.... good luck!!
i suggest to put some blog promotion for blog and free classfied posting and get some quality backlinks.
With PR and links its not just about the quantity, its more about the quality of those back links. A couple of links for high PR sites is usually more valuable than hundreds of links from low PR sites. However its usually better to not worry too much about Page Rank and just focus on building quality websites that provide something useful so that people will want to link to you, and hence improve your Page Rank.
Pay your attention towards quality rathen then quantity . i relavent link is much more then 10 irrelevant links.
I suggest you forget about most directories (waste of money) and concentrate to get quality backlinks from related sites that rank well with their keywords, sites with good linkjuice, then deeplinks, and sentence links can be very effective. forget about pr a link from a quality site with PR0 can be much more effective then a link on a shi..y PR5 site. good luck
Sorry, I don't have an article for you to read (which most articles are fabricated just to bring traffic anyhow). But how I have come to the conclusion is more factual than a none-sense BS article... Read all the google PR update threads and you'll see hundreds of statements like these: In addition to webmasters (like myself) with over 125,000 backlinks (many on very high PR7 and PR8 sites) who post new content 3 to 4 times per day... only to stay at a PR2 or PR3. You don't need to read an article to see the facts, just read what people are saying. Brand new sites with very little content and very few backlinks are making PR2 - PR3 while sites like johnchow.com go (who is linked to and adds fresh content daily) go from a PR7 to a PR3. So this means brand new sites with little to no content is just as "authoritative" as high traffic, high content, with extremely good backlinks 5 -10 year old websites. And I don't buy into the crap matt cutts is trying to sell us... I just sit back and observe. Here is some more facts for you -- http://www.something.com/ (pr5) haha!
PR is only imporatant if you want to sell some links, why don't you focus more on getting high ranking and some targeted traffic to your website
just do some good onsite optimization and gather quality links from article, blog and social bookmarking.
