in google adwords what is the diffrence between the two search operators

    exact phrase which uses "phrase"
    and
    exact term which uses [term]

i dont understrand how these are different.

i have put some keywords in each and they get different impressions and clicks. but i cannot figure how each is trigured.

    any clues?

[exact] triggers when someone types 'exact'. It won't trigger your advert for 'exact term'.

"exact" would trigger your advert for both 'exact' and 'exact term' or 'can you be more exact?'

if you don't specify phrase or exact match, it will be a broad match.

    Keyword = free widgets

For Broad match you would show up when either of your keywords is used anywhere in a query. eg. free pink bubbles, widgets for sale, expensive widgets

So you can understand why broad match can easily lead to throwing money down the drain

I think you need to spend more time in the google help section

    hello ellion...

when I ad keywords I use all three major formats.

    i.e. adword "adword" [adword]

    Seems to work for me...

broad match tries to encompass all related search queries.

Here's a couple of ways it achieves that.

    1) it ignores the order in which you typed a key phrase.

So for example "wedding photographer" triggers when someone types 'I want a wedding photographer' but on broad match the 2 words can be anywhere within the search string e.g: 'I need a photographer for my wedding'.

    2) broad will also trigger adverts on variants of the same words e.g: 'wedding photos' would trigger when your broad keyword was *wedding photographer*. (you can see how this match may not be beneficial if you were selling a photography service)

    3) broad will also match for plurals or non plurals even if you've only specified one.
