Hey all i was just wondering if google sitemap's help get you indexed faster with search engines I have one on my blog. But i really dont think its got a purpose.
so far i have not noticed any difference, maybe it helps it find pages it wouldn't otherwise. but i dont think it has anything to do with getting you indexed faster..
sorry guys, it got my site de-indexed within hours. I was having a valid PR-2 and after submitted a sitemap and after its verification and NO WARNINGS though, my site lost the PR-2 to PR-0
I couln't upload an XML sitemap so I did one in text and google accepted it. It helped me get some more of my pages indexed in google.
@affcashgains, I don't think it is attributable to submission of a sitemap. Maybe de-indexing was due to another tweak made simultaneously. According to google dot com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=40318 "Sites are never penalized for submitting Sitemaps."
I don't think it indexes you faster, but it just ensures Google doesn't miss any of your pages. This is especially useful when a lot of your pages are dynamic (google bots struggles to read them)
Read on my article about making a sitemap for google submission. Its an XML sitemap. I hope it helps. axedbydax-webdesign.blogspot.com
Well, geez, I should sure as hell hope not! The whole point is helping them to find you - they certainly shouldn't be penalizing us for that...
