And make sure the page your link is going to be submitted to actually has a quality page rank. Just because the main page is a PR4 does not mean the internal pages are.

 

Submit to High PR directories, forums, blog posts with "do follow" tags. There's no use submitting to "no follow" pages. The link will not be counted at all.

 

That is a good point. But, remember google does not like webmasters submitting to directories based on its individual page rank.

 

I think that directory submission is one of those important steps when building your links. Alone, it might not mount to much (unless you are listed in DMOZ or you pay for good placements), but accumulated with all your other strategies, it does count

I would have to say No, I purchased the directory submission from Mikey for one of my websites, after the PageRank update the website received a PR0. Only a few of the submissions where even counted as Backlinks by Google. What you have to understand is searching for PageRank is a thing of the past; PageRank is broken as Google doesn’t like people making money out of it. I know of a parked domain that got PR4, some websites with only a few Backlinks get PR4/PR5.

I have lost count of the money that I have spent to be listed on a category with PR only to find that the PR was removed on the next update. As for traffic, most directories don’t send much traffic. Save your money, write some good content and traffic will come your way.

Directory links are 'safe' backlinks, but not always targeted for your needs.

Forget Pagerank - it's a joke.

 

Matt Cutts still insists it means something.....but I would take that with a few dozen grains of salt.

 

Directory Submissions works great to increase the PR

 

I would say that directory submissions are not dead yet . Last year I got PR3 for a site just by directory submissions. For this PR update a new site got stuck for PR2 (just directory submissions).

 

even one of our client got PR3 by using only our 500 submission package. I believe directory submission are cheap and effective way to get quality backlinks.

 

Wow, PR3 with 500 submissions? That was feasible 2 years ago. I would be surprised if it can be repeated.

 

Of course the directory links are effective for pr and rands.

page rank is just a number game which changes every 3 months. I always advise my clients to stop chasing pr and try getting higher serps and various mediums of traffic.
