It sure seems like it. However, through thick and thin, Microsoft still seems to be pretty successful among its competitors.

From a report I read yesterday, microcrash has lost about 3% - 5% of the enterprise workstation market to MAC - and this is directly due to the failures of vista. And why the enterprise market? Because when you hook vista up to a windows domain, it does not play friendly with the users roaming profile.

Bill Gates is an idiot anyway. Its the people behind the scenes that made microcrash the beast it is today. His leaving the CEO position will not affect anything, because he never did anything. Bill just liked to take the glory for what other people did. So many of of the ideas that microcrash used were stolen from, or taken from other companies. The tcp/ip code in XP was lifted from unix or linux, active directory, the mouse - all ideas that were developed by other people.

I wouldn't call him an idiot, he was after all the one who helped combine all of those ideas to make one broad idea. As for whether or not Microsoft is failing, I must say I agree with everyone. Apple is fighting hard and gaining a lot of ground fast. The Zune just fails when compared to iPod and the Xbox isn't doing so great either. If it weren't for the world's addiction to the Microsoft OS's then Apple would be the front runner. I hope that Apple gets even closer to taking Microsoft's lead so that Microsoft starts churning out some good stuff. Competition is always good for everyone.

Of course, Microsoft will always have a lot to contribute to the society, even though I don't use much of their products, except Windows XP and occasionally Internet Explorer. And Bill Gates has made his mark, truth be told.

and have your heard, google might bring out an open source OS, this would really kick MS in the privates. But Something that large will take a long while to vanish. My guess is MS will be around for many more years to come, even if their SE and OS sucks

If Google comes up with a OS, Microsoft Shares will definitely go down in cents...

Google Softwares are the best for free whether it may be Orkut, Spreadsheets, Google Maps, Analytics and Ofcourse the Best Search Engine ever made.

Hurry Up Larry Page we are in desperate need to get out of MS Monopoly.

I think M$ is being attacked in several sectors, namely, software(open source), internet(Google) and gaming.

But M$ is still so huge that it can survive by buying it's competitors, or innovative companies.

It has always amazed me how one of the most intelligent men in the world, seemingly, cannot seem to hire the best programmers in the world. Maybe MS-Dos and Windows were flukes, and his talents don't go much further than that academically. He is a college dropout, after all. As far as his business savvy is concerned, he hasn't actually run that company in a long time. He has people who run it for him.

I just can't believe how bad Vista is, after they ditched Longhorn because it stunk so badly they couldn't fix it. I'm beginning to think they just gave Longhorn the name Vista and released it.

MSN has never made money. They've been carrying it since its inception. That's why they partnered with NBC, because they needed cash infusion into MSN. Now with Live, which is also pretty much a bust, I just can't see where they're going internet wise.

They should just do what they do, and leave the internet alone.

No I don’t think they will as long as they continue to dominate the OS market. And what I don’t like the most is their tactic of forcing people to change to new OS by terminating support for the older versions.

They will pull through no matter what :)
Microsoft is not about to let competition flow into their markets.

If you really want to get down to details, his daddy bought him microsoft after he dropped out of college. His daddy dropped the golden egg in his lap.

This makes him a lucky idiot.

I think Microsoft Era is was on high during 2000-05 but seems like others capturing their market and giving healthy competition to them.
