Google PR disappearing for directories internal pages?

    It happened to me.

An established PR5 directory of mine seems to be penalized by Google, all of its internal/category pages were PR4 before this update and now they are NA .. all of them, with no exception.

May be because I was selling links? i.e prices mention on submit page etc. lol

I wonder if this happened to anyone else? also, why they didn't remove the PR of homepage too? :D

    Thanks in advance.

You’re not really penalized. Google does not want directories to have the ability to influence or manipulate page rank and that’s how they do it. It’s quite normal for directories and as long as your pages are cached don’t worry about it.

All penalties are not mean to de-index website .. it could be another penalty, not showing PR .. so they can't sell links.

    Damn!

Google has been doing this for quite some time now. If you want to get the PR back you have to add rel=nofollow to all your submissions.

Quite honestly if you’re not in the business of selling links your business will not suffer at all.

I can't say anything as I have no idea on the quality of your directory.

Aviva is a powerful site. It hires editors to actually add sites to the directory to make it content rich, along with its blogs, articles, tutorials etc.

Actually -disappearance of PR from categories started long time back - most probably the last update in 2007.

But still some directories have PR on internal categories --

Out of few I checked -

few still have good PR - on 2nd level categories like --

    directory . com/ arts/ paintings

    But they are rare now.

Even btow . org has no PR on several 2nd level categories.

If botw does not have it - why should we bother.

    :D

yea true on this happening a long time ago
I have some categories with inner pr but again very rare and random

with the amount of directories now without inner PR hopefully submitters have moved away from using this as a marker for how important a page is and look at other factors such as cached date

I have a directory that I don't post on any forums as they get splashed with the same pot of paint that google threw at some directories, I have inner pr on up to 5 categories deep and most went up from 1 to 3 which seems to be standard these days.

Because it's always good to see when directory owners claim PR means nothing - then when there's a PR update, they all run around panicking:D
