Bumping Auctions in the BST

I have a question regarding the bumping of auction style sale threads in the BST. The rules clearly state that bumping a thread in any way is against the rules. The problem is that this makes it almost impossible to run a multi day auction of any sort.

For example lets say a buyer may places a bid on the first day of a five day auction but after they see no updates to the thread they oftentimes assume that the seller has found another person to purchase the site. This is not the case though, the seller just had no way to bump the thread with any sort of update. The result is the sale falling through and the seller is forced to relist the site. My suggestion is to allow one bump every 24 hours for auction style listings in the BST. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

If people are interested in the site, they would place bids in the thread which would "bump" it for you.

If the sales thread lands at the bottom, then not too many people can be interested in the site.

I'm interested in how some people get away with constantly replying to their own threads where as some get punished.

If you see it, you can simply use the report thread button

That first initial bid will bump the site, but after that the auction sits for 4-5 days out of view. By that time the initial bidder has forgot about the auction and has decided to back out of the sale.

If there is a lot of interest, there will be more then one bid.

You might get a flurry of bids in the first day when the auction is on the first page but after that it is bound to drop out of sight and be forgotten.

Anyone interested in the auction will subscribe to the thread. Don't you monitor threads in which you are interested?
