Hi, I was discussing with a friend about SEO and backlinks. We had the topic if the sites the backlinks are on do matter. I say that it matters a lot if your backlinks come from sites where your site also resides. so, backlinks from the same country like your sites IP do matter I say. He says that this is not important. What is proven and what is just speculation?
Take a look at it from Google's perspective. if your site about purple slippers has 100 links pointing to it and 80 of them are from footwear type sites, then those links will be very relevant. It matters since google is always looking for validation and similar classifications of what the site tells google it's about via content and links pointing to it.
Yes, it matters very much where your backlinks are coming from. As RankSurge has pointed out, backlinks from relevant sites are worth much more than those from unrelated sites. This is true for PR, SERPs, and traffic. The country of the website would not matter very much if at all, but the IP matters a lot. If your backlinks are from a site that is hosted on the same IP address they will carry much less value.
if I were Google I would say that having a site which is in usa that gets niche related links from china is suspicious and I would not rank it high for that. Google is not thinking like me, you say?
I think Google would judge the site from China based upon its content and the number and quality of both inbound and backlinks much more than the fact that it is in China. The bottom line is that websites are judged by their content and backlinks, probably 99% more than all other factors.
ok, thats interesting, but is there proof for that? I mean are there any SEOs here who can acctually show long term results bsed on this assertion?
Yes, where your backlinks are coming from is very important, though it's not so much to do with location or IP address, but more to do with themes and authority. Positive factors - Same/similar topics - High PR (trust) - Authority site - Link embedded in content - Anchor text value - Old site Negative factors - Excessive linking from same IP
The source of your site's link is very important. All links that you build into your site must be a quality one.
Like the others have said - yes they are important but for different reasons. It all depends on what you hope to gain from those backlinks. Do you want PR improvements or do you want traffic? If you're weighting is biased towards traffic then don't worry so much about the 'quality' of your backlinks - you may get a link from a poor site that brings in 10,000 new customers everyday... Good luck, Cheers, p.
The Backward links play an important rule for a website. Either the quality number of back links is more important then a quantity of back word links.
I agree on this, that's why you have to get backlinks from relevant sites because it added value for your site.
ok, thanks so far for all your comments. of course it matters where your links are coming from, but I just wanted to focus on the language and location of the website. that backlinks should come form the same niche is quite obvious to get better rankings. but my main concern is related to language and location. and most of you say thats not so important. what I want to know is: Is this claim just a claim or is it documented with real results achieved by you? Thanks
These are real results for all of my clients - and because I get those links for my clients, they have many top rankings for their phrases and it will take another seo alot of effort to replace my clients in the rankings: http://www.ranksurge.com/results.htm
The best links come from sites that rank above you in the keyword that you are targetting. It also helps that they are above the fold though I am not 100% positive of this.
