When do you think humans will step foot on mars? I think around 2020.

Only after they actually (really) walk on the moon.

    Hope the above aren't serious...

Anyway, I think we'll definitely see a Mars walk in the next decade or two. With the rapid exponential growth of technology, it seems inevitable!

I don't think that will happen anytime soon. We went to the moon mainly for political reasons, we were on cold war, the whole world was divided between USA and Soviet Union, the scientific research was just an extra, and right now, the USA doesn't need to prove its superiority to anyone, so why spend millions of dollars in something that will not bring any benefit?

Well, the OP said "humans", not necessarily Americans. And who really knows if it would bring benefits or not, maybe it will, maybe it won't. We have yet to find out.

Good question! I guess not even those from the NASA do not know the answer to this question.

Not very soon, I believe. NASA is short on funds, and that kind of mission would cost a lot.

In any case it will not happen in the following 10-15 years...

Believe the conspiracies if you want...but, yes, I think most people would agree that we went to the moon. Which in reality, isn't all that spectacular anyway, so why would anyone lie about it?

To answer your question, well, why would we go back? No point, really. It's kind of like going to DisneyWorld, go there once, been there, done that.

because we (usa) didn't go there for scientific research, but to prove to the world that they're better and stronger than the soviets, we did that once, there's no need to do it again :)

@shamus, well, that is true, but anyway, USA is still one of the only countries with some aerospace research, isn't it?

True indeed, and if I had to place a bet on who would make it there first, no doubt I'd go with the US. However, I recently read/watched a report on emerging space programs in other countries, so, who knows!

Honestly, I don't care who does it first, just seeing it done would be good enough for me!

    About 6 months I think I've heard.

NASA as of last year had plans to go back to the moon by 2020, and to Mars by 2030.

Probably within the next 20 yrs since they are spending so many millions to try to find out if theres water at the poles on Mars. If they do find water, then it will make way for people to live there.
