www.gumtree.com - Thing is you need to be a UK resident to use it.

Why not create a few pages at www.pagerank10.co.uk its £10 but they last 2 months and if you start obtaining traffic you can book the ad's for a year.

Oh and www.splut.com or www.vendora.com are free too. Not much traffic but the links do show up though.

I would go slowly in the beginning but on a long run, I would not worry about it. Change the text and anchors as often as you can.
