I am looking to build some backlinks on one of my sites, and am wondering if paying a service/company to build backlinks? Anyone tried this? WHat could I expect to pay?

You can pay anywhere from $1 - $2000 per link. How much you pay depends on the
quality of the backlink you would like to purchase ie: the page rank, the alexa rank,
the amount of backlinks pointing to the domain, and the age of the domain.

You should be very careful when purchasing backlinks because google does not condone this,
you should get backlinks from other sources as well ie: article submission, directory submission,
blog postings, and press release distribution.

Yes, do remember that Google identifies link selling and sends all sorts of red flags up it discovers more than a slight change in your website. Just when selling links on your site be sure your only selling one per week to keep Google of your tail, and try not and sell more than 5 links per page. And try not an offer sitewide links... they may make you more money, but selling one or two of those sends up a few red flags at Google unlike the apperance of one link on one page on your site.

Also be sure when buying links you review your sellers site and ask about things regarding there policies on selling links and how often they update. Get to know how they do it inside out before you proceed. Because if you pay for someone to post 50 sitewide links all on the same day, Google won't only bust them, but they'll bust you for buying links.

Generally, be careful when buying/ selling links. One slip-up and there goes your site from Google index, plus you then get to stare at a PR0 forever... which frankly, isn't as bad as getting "un-indexed" by Google.

    Shamsiownz,

That's because you're used to exchanging links manually, the old way... If you would get yourself the advanced membership at my site, than you'd be able to collect links 24/7/365 in your sleep.

Visit my site, Shamsiownz. My link directory script is 2nd to none as far as helping people get links. It automates the entire process and helps people exchange links with you.

Depends on how fast you want to achieve the results. Doing it manually - article submission, directory listing, forums, blog commenting definitely helps. But it takes time. Whereas a paid link from a high page rank site gets you noticed immediately.

in press release you pay a company to create a press release for you and then that PR is published over MANY websites which display press release..

as that PR contains your link so you get many many backlinks from it

Personally, I spend about $3k per month on my article marketing work, and that gives me strong traffic and backlinks. So for me, to spend a few hundred extra on targeted backlinks, I think that is a good investment...I guess it really depends on what your goal is with the backlinking and what kind of ROI you are looking for.

Good campaigns start at $2500+ per month on contract or you can try blog links at http://www.contextual-style.com.

as per the my point of view it's god idea to invest in paid links, but you should take ROI from your investment. It's very good and result oriented for your links in paid and niche websites and directories, having a good PR where your link on that website.

I think what's he asks about is the one-way backlink building, not the reciprocal link exchanges that your site offers...

I myself am paying a member of DP to do the backlink building as I'm too busy with my day job so I can't do it myself. I'm happy with his service so I could recommend him to you. But it's really not necessary to buy links or pay somebody to do it as you can easily do it for free... unless you're super busy.

Well, it's not the most original idea. Personally I don't outsource the linkbuilding process.
It's way too important so I prefer to know exactly what is done and how it is done.
Paying for quality backlinks is OK, paying for a linkbuilding service is not a very good idea though.

Paying for backlink is the fastest way to build up your PR
However, i will suggest not go for those link building company because you might get some farm backlink which is not a quality backlink. It is better if you buy it through some member who provide the quality backlink
You can have a look on SBT section in DP about the price

Google is heavily penalizing for paid links.

Used to get away with, but not if it's from known vendors, even if it's a related topic.

Show me some evidences. I can prove you that most websites who bought links are still there, in the top of competitive SERPs. Unless you are stupid (sell links to unrelevant websites, do not sell in-content links but sitewide instead), you won't be penalized.
