1. Does hosting the domain on a UK server make a difference? 2. Would anyone recommend a 301 direct to a .co.uk domain, would this screw up current google results? please, your feedback is greatly welcomed! thanks
I don't think any of it will make a difference. Just work on your backlinks (preferably from .co.uk sites) and manage to get listed on .com if you're not already. Patience is a virtue, my friend
I would also select the Uk geographically as an option in Google Webmaster Tools and conentrate on getting links from relevant c.uk sites.
Hello, I am working as SEO in UK. Believe me hosting in UK server for Google.co.uk and especially for UK results only make a huge difference and it is very important. If you would like to use redirections better redirect .co.uk to .com domain name or your ranking will drop from everywhere if you do the opposite.
Thanks for the advice about UK hosting, am thinking to to this... currently have .com domain which is ranking well in google.com but on about page 8 on google.co.uk - if i 301 to a .co.uk, presume from what you say, this will put me back at the bottom of the pile?
Believe me .co.uk need to be redirected to .com. If you redirect .com to .co.uk you will disappear from top 100+. I also do not agree that targeting domain only from Google Webmaster tools works same way as UK host IP.
I didn't say it did. Only that it would help if you were trying to get more UK traffic for a .com site. I may have misunderstood the OP's intention though as I seem to be doing a bit of that today.
hosting a .com in the UK or using a .co.uk and hosting it anywhere will show Google you're in the UK and give you better UK search results. I'm interested in whether you redirect .com to .co.uk or the other way round too Targeting the domain in Google Webmaster tools often doesn't make any difference - not in my experience anyway :-(
Folks, another question: I have had (due to a redirection) 70% non UK traffic to the site, mainly USA - I have now stopped this, so that 98% of traffic will be UK only. Will this have any effect on Google.co.uk rankings?
