You can choose from http://www.distrowatch.org, there are a lot of different distros, you need to know which is suitable for you.

If you're new to Linux I would say go with Ubuntu. People may argue, but it's one of the best for getting used to the whole Linux way of life.

Fedora support life is far too short compare to RHEL or Centos, ease of use wise, Centos would be similar and is the Enterprise version of Fedora.

You will need to register online and purchase it either as a download or CD. Sorry RHEL isn't free. Redhat isn't free since Redhat 9.0

Why not just download CentOS? It is the community edition of RHEL. It has version compatibility, just no logos for Red Hat.

If you cannot trust Centos, you are basically saying you cannot trust RHEL. Reason being Centos is built from the same open source as RHEL. It is similar to Fedora as RHEL is and is more reliable being the Enterprise version of it.

Hi http://www.centos.org , you may also want to read their introduction for better understanding of why it is equivalent to RHEL.....it is free btw.

Go with CentOS 5, is the latest version built to mimic the latest RHEL.
