That surprises me, I would have thought a topic like this would have been created hundreds of times! Well, just goes to show...
I have vista and xp on 2 different computers. Vista makes you need to get downloads for some accessorioes like printer or buy new one. Xp is one i like better.
I prefer XP SP2, stable enough for me I have no improvement in productivity using Vista It requires higher hardware, have bad compatibility issues I give it zero value
Vista is better. The biggest complaint you always get is that it's a "pig" with memory. IMO, if it wasn't it wouldn't be an improvement. Everything "new" is and/or should be. Companies should be putting in additional features. With the cost of memory so low, if you can't afford to bring your laptop/desktop to 2GB of RAM, you shouldn't own a computer for anything more than surfing a few websites. People run Windows XP on 512MB of RAM and say that Vista won't run on 512MB. Try running XP on 128MB RAM (which was great for '98), you'll start to cry. Same thing is true for many things. Powerful software requires more powerful hardware and if you're ready to come to terms with that reality, stick with XP.
righto dude. if you're a KID, you'd use Vista playing Crysis or Stalker with its Direct X10. and if you're NOT a kid, you'd use vista running photoshop, fireworks, dreamweaver, visual basics whatever, and things like that. try running those on Vista ultimate with 2 GB ram. YOU'LL CRY. p.s. sorry, you use 4 gigs of ram? well you're really a kid who just wanted more.
Bingo, I think the point here is that Vista is actually much faster than XP if you have the right hardware. I run with a Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and a 512 MB Nvidia Gforce 8800GT and it screams. And I'm a professional graphic artist using lots of photoshop, illustrator, etc. and it's much more stable for me than XP ever was.
I use Windows XP almost only because of the interface. I really really like it. (I have a lot of experience with Gnome and Fluxbox but in my opinion they are not even close!). I use the classic theme by the way.
Alright. I have had much concerns online with this issue so I have to discuss it a little bit. VISTA, at first comming out was an excitement to computer users everywhere. They all thought it was going to be good and full of features. Then to find out that almost nothing was compatible, XP programs didn't work correctly, and it had a stupid box popping up every time you wanted to do something. So this lost my interest. While using XP I knew where everything was, I could probably mod it anyway I needed to and it was pretty simple. My friend bought a Vista and I was a little upset with him because I heard the stories and figured it was terrible. I went to work on it for him. WOW Was I surprised to find out how easy it is to operate. It is a very user friendly machine but again you have that annoying box every time u want to open something. After months and months now of operating it on and off on my friends machine I have come to like Vista much MUCH more than XP. I have not, as of yet, upgraded but will soon do so.
Vista sucks balls.. seriously. It doesnt recognize any hardware, it requires special drivers for everything. It asks me if i want to open a program or not after i already clicked the link. It takes forever to load especially with the stupid dock on the side activated. It has a useless start menu list and the the big off button on the start menu doesnt shut it down but instead puts it on standby. You have to leave a laptop open till it competely shutsdown or it will go into standby once you close it. To cut it short.. vista sucks.. Go with XP and the most updated service pack.
I have both at home... I prefer Vista because it seems to be a bit faster and easier.. but XP is not that bad for the reason that it's easy to navigate around...
I would take my hands to Xp..Visa is good, biut cmon mahn, xp is being our mate since 5yrs..ryt?.. i love xp
