I think the peak was due to lots spammers or scammers. And falling is due to banning them.:D

Yes i also noticed the same thing!
It may be the result of the 7 day ban which is implemented recently in order to stop spam post like " I am interested" , " Please PM ME " and such.
You can see a lot of members being banned and even reputed members. I think it is the result of the loss to digital point traffic:(
Also, i am noticed that there are lesser members online and more guests.
Yesterday i saw only 346 members online and 987 guests
May be the members are not logging in due to the fear of being banned and so they are surfing DP as guests :D

I think its because of the competitors. More and more forums are opening up everyday

Uh, notice the similar drop for SitePoint. It has nothing to do with DP banning.

Fairly interesting to see the drop in traffic. Tis summer time though and people do tend to take vacations.

yeh i think the banning has alot to do with it

maybe people dont get into the webmaster world because of the amount of scamming that goes on

I believe it has more to do with Alexa, they changed the way they track rankings. Sites that were techie and tended to attract more computer savvy users who would be more likely to have the alexa toolbar were higher ranked than they really deserved.

You guys fail to realize that the graph only shows Alexa ranking, but not traffic. Every day there ar enew miracle websites hitting the web that position themselves high on Alexa ranking. For example adult tube sites. Of course they will take up some of top spots and if you had high Alexa ranking, it will take you down. However the traffic your site gets could still be the same. The number of internet users is increasing and so is the number of websites. Dropping Alexa ranking does not necessarily mean drop in traffic.

The traffic is the same so there is no drop . This is just a graph from alexa and it is not accurate .
This drop is relationed with the new tracker of alexa .
My site also is dropping alot ( depending on alexa ) , but it still recieve the same amount of traffic .
The problem is that alexa is showing the same drop for all the hight traffic sites ( 80%).
Just check another big site and you will see this big drop .
