if you considered content has a large points to SE, then it will be on page! but the scenario is not like that off page give much more weight to rank in SERP and other SE's.

off page (or off site) optimisation is my favourite because it brings in traffic - traffic is more important than PR which is what 'on site' optimisation gets you...

The off page is of vital importance coz for example if you type in google "click here" you will find that Adobe Acrobat reader is the #1 site though the whole page does not contain the keyword click here but it is the anchore text from other websites.

    On-Page Optimization = 20%
    Off-Page Optimization = 80%

But content is king. If your content is good then no one can stop you !

    Excellent reply..
    I also agree with that....
I give more preference for off page ...
If one uses wordpress then using a hand full of plugins and setting, there is no need to care about the off page optimization

Unique content is king, anyone can get content by pinching it off someone else's website.

Sure, offpage is important, but I feel onpage and offpage is just as important. No onpage, while concentrating on offpage wont win the day when you concentrate on both.

People feel that concentrating on h1, h2 tags, title tag, description tags, keyword meta tags, first and last 25 words on a page, LSI wording on a page is all that makes up On-page SEO.

Take wiki-pedia for instance, what do you notice there that isn't on many other sites?
In-content linking: there's loads of keywords hyperlinked on a page that point to other related documents, creating what I refer to as a "Semantically Theme Vector Related Structure" (yup, a mouth full..lol), by doing this you appear to the search engines as a professional by creating editorial references that improve on a users collection of knowledge, which Google just loves since it's increasing the user experience - it's not like they visit a page then there's no where to go on that page to read more about it, there's a never ending trail of information. On that note, the more in-content references you have on a page the better you rank in Yahoo & MSN also.

    Low competition: 80% on-page, 20% off-page.
    High competition: 20% on-page, 80% off-page.

Crawlers like content. But only some good backlinks can tell spiders that site isn`t just waste of time - that it is important enough to crawl and index your content. How do robots know what`s good content? "Content is king" means for SE-s that your site should attract people to link to that content...

The only people who will tell you "content is king", is paid article writers :D

askloz.com I would say you are wrong with both being as important. Offpage is 90% of seo. Unless you have massive errors onpage, you can rank for anything at all purely through offpage stuff. I bet you can't rank for anything outwith gibberish or 10 word phrases, using onpage only.

Well, you have your opinion Vic, and I have my professional opinion. I've been doing SEO for ages, and I don't get over 5,000 visitors to my sites on a daily basis by not knowing what I do best. ;)

lol. Without knowing what your site is or what niche, 5k means nothing to me ;)

If anyone honestly thinks onpage is important as offpage, I'll happily have a little challenge and I'll rank for something with only offpage, and they can use only onpage. I think we all know what the outcome would be. On page is nothing compared to offpage.

Offpage is building backlinks thru blog commenting. In the spot that says name put an Keyword phrase Anchor text link with an embeded url.
