Which sized Ad Formats are the most successful?

    Hi all,

I'm about to try my luck with AdSense for the first time, and since I'm designing the site from scratch I can pretty much build it around the places I want the ads to go. I was wondering which formats everyone has had the most success with.

The site will be 800px wide. After my banner, navbar, and intro, I was thinking of running a Leaderboard 728x90 ad, followed by more content, and maybe another 728x90 on the bottom right before my footer.

Initally I was thinking of running a Wide Skyscraper 160x600 down the right-hand side of the site, with the content on the left. I might still do this on some of the sub-pages.

I know the answer to my question kinda "depends" on my site... but I was wondering overall if any one particular ad had better performance than others. Also, if anyone can point me to a decent AdSense tutorial (aside from Google's, which I already read), that would be much appreciated as well. Wish me luck, and thanks in advance.

For most people the big square units work the best.

Not necessary . Depends more on site layout and content / ad placement .

For me a horizontal link unit has given a high CTR because of its position ( below header image ) .

According to Google the ad that appears first will be the one that has a high click price as most of the advertisers will be competing for that placement ;)

ive had good success with single ad units, placed between the content

make sure you do label them as ads well though, or google may ban your account

I thought google DOES label them as ads, with the phrase "Ads by google".

I have additional responsibility beyond that?
